The John Ross | Complete

The John Ross tower looks exactly like two towers proposed by Williams & Dame in Downtown LA.

Williams and Dame is actually the development company of this district too. Homer Williams is the developer and he rose to national acclaim after he built our Pearl district.

I take it they'll be putting up a taller crane for the John Ross soon, right?

I think they can adjust the crane height as construction progresses. For instance, the Benson crane is REALLY low, and you can barely see it through the surrounding buildings.

Someone posted (or maybe I just read) something a few months back about a crane shortage in this part of the country. I've assumed since then that they're temporarily using shorter cranes for the John Ross and Benson because that's all they could get a hold of - with the hope that something will be available when they need it - but I'm just guessing.

I wish projects like this were more common.

This page shows how the cranes raise themselves higher as needed. I think this is how some of the cranes in Portland are since they are so low right now.

I think the bigger reason they are using these raising cranes is the towers they are building are getting taller and taller and this is how the taller towers are built. Though admittedly on the big ones the cranes actually sit ontop of the tower, still same type concept.

They better start raising the John Ross crane soon... the tower is almost as tall as it now!

looks like the john ross is around 20-22 stories now with another 10-12 to go... so it will be a good bit taller than the meriwether. never fully realized before just how much taller it is than the rest of the sowa buildings and how tall it is when compared to the rest of downtown's towers.

In case you hadn't seen it yet, I put in for the building diagrams to be drawn up and they have added both the John Ross and Block 38 to the Portland diagram.
