Yeah the streets in that corner of the Warehouse District can get very confusing, even for a local.

Glad to see the medical clinic in that spot. I used to live in Lakeview near there. I seem to remember there was a building on that site before Katrina, but I can't picture what it was.

Also I love the rooftop areas being developed. When I lived in NO, there was really very little use of the rooftops, and I always wondered why.

it was some weird nightclub lol

as for the rooftop developments there are two reasons: changing tastes but also strangely enough before the city adopted its new CZO there was a clause in the old CZO that open space above 120 feet didnt count towards a projects open space requirement.. which was definitely ridiculous.. the reason why I know this is the new virgin Hotel is seeking a waiver on open space requirements because its being processed under the old CZO.. and although they have enough open space in the building, because most of it is above 120 feet it doesnt count under the old CZO

Harrah's expansion in New Orleans gets initial approval from House committee

A Louisiana House of Representatives committee moved forward two bills Wednesday (March 21) that would extend Harrah's New Orleans gambling contract with the state by 30 years and allow more restaurants and entertainment options at the casino complex, including a new luxury hotel.

Caesars Entertainment Corp. is seeking to make its Harrah's New Orleans site far more like the all-encompassing casinos in Las Vegas. It plans to add a Vegas-style night club, spa, state-of-the-art pool and a restaurant run by a nationally-recognized "celebrity chef" such as Gordon Ramsey. A New Orleans-focused food hall, a new venue for musicians and improved street entrances and landscaping would also be part of the expansion.

The larger facility would not include more gambling. In fact, the entire purpose of the project would be to provide more amenities that have nothing to do with table games, video poker or slot machines at all.

Good to see Harrahs is moving fast... its important mention as well that everything the state is doing is to allow them to build more stuff on the actual casino site.. everything off site in the current hotel or fulton street is ready to go now as long as its not additional gaming space, and that The Filmore theatre is different from the new nightclub they propose on second floor.

So does the city/state get more annual payment from Harrah's if they let them build a second hotel (aside from room occupancy taxes)?

I would think that the state can ask for more money as part of the lease extension if they let Harrah's build a second hotel, especially with the financial hole the state is in. If I remember right, the original lease for the casino said no hotels, then they allowed one as an exception. Now it's two hotels for the same price? Doesn't seem like the state knows the value of this project if they didn't get more.

I believe I read that the $60 million in annual payments by Harrah's will now be $67 million. Half of the 7 mil going to the state and half going to the city.

i'm sorry, but $7 million is pennies for what they are creating. If they didn't sign the 30 year deal and let Hard Rock or MGM Grand build something here, they would get far more than $7 million. If Harrah's wants to have the monopoly, they need to pay for it.

Well I'm sure Harrah's is spending a few more million dollars under the table for this to happen...
