Maybe Dave Angus will take a run at the job next time around.

Bowman is exactly as I expected. Dull and boring. Which I'm sort of okay with after the whole Katz thing.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't put JWL and Nenshi in the same category at all.

I don't want a Nenshi.

He is basically Bowman with a better social networking presence.

What exactly has Nenshi done for Calgary of any value other than a couple witty soundbytes?

Nenshi has articulated clear vision for the city, he hasn't been afraid to stand up to the housing lobby to control sprawl in Calgary. He has pushed sustainable forms of infrastructure like transit. He appears to have a solid understanding of how to use the levers of policy to get Calgary to where he, and by extension the people who voted for him, wants it to be.

Frankly, I'm tired of the mayoral showdowns we've had here for the last decade and some which always seem to involve a businessman who doesn't particularly know about or care about urban issues all that much, versus some labour person fighting for their entrenched interests. Give me someone, left or right, who knows and understands cities.

People didn't want our Nenshi (Ouellett) they instead wanted a younger version of Katz (Bowman).

Ouellette and Sanders had some Nenshi-like characteristics, but neither one was up to his level.

None of the candidates in the last election were really that great. We got the best of a limited selection. People with any vision inevitably get poopooed in this city. As if having a positive and optimistic perception and having great goals for the city were a terrible thing.

Yeah, that's very true. Honestly, I'm sure we could have a mayoral race between Nenshi and the Best Sleep Centre guy and more likely than not, the local media would end up ignoring Nenshi while lauding mattress man as a brilliant business genius who will finally fix the potholes.

I guess we get the mayors we deserve.

Judy's problem was she was putting provincial issues in her platform for a municipal politician. Bowman will be one of those "end of term assessments" where we won't really know until we look at accomplishments. Sure he may not be "inspiring" — but if he gets a lot of (important) things done... is that bad? Sometimes, especially in a small city like Winnipeg, flying a bit under the radar can help you get more done. I would also vote for Brent.

But, this is not construction related.

Well Sanders was a pretty smart guy probably at the Nenshi level, Ouellette is nothing but a self promoting coat hangar!
