At an earlier meeting, their president even claimed that the new bits of landscaping they've put in the middle of the shopping center should count as part of their "public park" requirement. I asked what would happen if some of the residents in the apartments above decided one Saturday morning to play ball there. He claimed he didn't understand what I was asking and never answered.

As you can see from the renderings, a big chunk of the roof will be occupied by mechanical equipment, and because of the long-span roof over the auditorium and gym just underneath, trees can't be planted on most of it.

The cafeteria is in the basement.
^ Okay, I can see where you're coming from. I think at this point one good compromise from the community should be to allow for the development with the rooftop park but to push very forcefully that there should be more access points for the park, the park to be publicly available, and for there to be limited programming for the British School.

What happens now? The parks department comes back with a response? Does the parks department have a public meeting?

What happens now? Well, I think the PD amendment is likely to be denied. A color rendering doesn't automatically entitle a developer to a zoning change.

Pile driving underway at about 16th and State. I thought it was that new AMLI at first, but that's too far South. What is going up there? They are putting foundations for something fairly large.

I hope you're right, frankly. Concerns about this version of a park, and all sorts of related issues such as physical access, public access with regard to British School programming, staircases, connections to the upper retail level, etc are all very valid. For, me, in addition, the design is just dreadful. What the hell is wrong with Antunovich (not to mention McCaffery!!)? Just a lousy design architect, period. You'd think British School, with their tremoundous design in (south of) Lincoln Park, would care just a little about this sort of stuff.....what did McCaffery say - 'hey I got this cut-rate, third-rate, order-taking, totally submissive lackey hackitect that does all my junk, let me hook you up'. Makes me very weary of what we're going to end up with as far as the high-rise design(s) at RC......I can only assume the work regretably goes to Antunovich.....

Has Logan Square yet come of age?

Starwood venture plans 39 apartments in Logan Square

^ I really hope to see this one happen. Not only does it replace a vacant lot, but I am desiring to see more development like this enclose the Milwaukee Ave corridor.

i went up to Argyle and had some pho for the first time over the weekend (loved it) and couldnt help but notice this mess. its like they just picked a font at random (and a poor one at that: it dosent even fit properly, spacing is a visual mess, and if im not mistaken the letters are different sizes?! who designed this? im utterly stupefied).

Speaking of which, the old industrial building at Ashland & Webster has now been cleared, so we may have a case of duelling Mariano's projects on the north and south sides. Probably will be more interesting than what our north & south side MLB teams will have to offer this year.
