This is the common joke about Florida but there's a whole lot of truth to it. The Economist ran a story about the twitter account @_FloridaMan which documents the truly bizarre stories to come from that state. I'm sure those moving here are trying to escape that insanity and not bring it with them.

I'm rolling my eyes because he's saying if not for Florida, then Texas would carry that banner.

Well Mississippi and Alabama still give us a run for our money but not by much. We are pretty bad as far as state policies are concerned.

On the subject of DT market, can anyone tell me if there has been any increase in foreign investment? We recently heard about a Dubai company getting involved with Aspen Heights but are there any other international companies starting to invest are are interested in getting into the market?

My comment wasn't political, but the fact that you took it as such is indicative of my reputation. I regret a couple of my past comments that created such an impression.

Downtown Austin news...

Something to keep our eyes on? How far with this suggestion go?

Trading places: Odd City Council bedfellows propose downtown courthouse switch

If I were the county, I'd take a serious look at the thought...considering they will more than likely loose the bond election.

So....IF this were to happen, in a perfect world, the county would sell off the land (they own it, right?) to a private entity so it could be better developed. That area is begging for something amazing.

Sandra Bullock's popular downtown Austin bistro closing its doors
BY NICOLE RANEY 9.8.15 | 12:48 pm

It's time to bid adieu to Bess Bistro: The Sandra Bullock-owned restaurant will close later this month.

Bess Bistro's final day on West Sixth Street will be Sunday, September 20, but the space won't stay empty for long. "A new concept will soon open in Bess' location we are certain will provide the community with a unique and exciting dining experience," the restaurant revealed on Facebook. Austin360 reports that the new owners of the space will be opening a tapas lounge.

Nooooooo, it can't close! We have fond memories of running into Sandra Bullock there. I should go for dinner before they close.

Austin's Congress Avenue one of nation's priciest roads for office space

By Will Anderson – Digital Editor, Austin Business Journal
7 hours ago

Austin is home to one of the priciest collections of office space in the country.

Downtown's Congress Avenue ranked No. 10 for the most expensive streets for commercial real estate in a December report by Jones Lang LaSalle IP Inc., or JLL.

While the area was traditionally dominated by state offices and financial institutions, "a wave of new office, multifamily and retail developments has transformed Congress Avenue into one of the market’s most dynamic corridors," the report states.

Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but 823 Congress Ave is painting their building. They went from a somewhat decent looking black color, to now the ugliest sky blue color I've ever seen

And I could have taken a pic of it today but it was chilly and when I'm wearing gloves, can't operate my touch screen phone...

It reminded me of one of those children's toy buildings, you know the ones that you can build a mini city which would take up your living room space. Kinda a kiddy toddler blue. Doesn't really fit with the rest of Congress IMO.

Hell, I'll even go as far as saying that mostly blank south facing wall on Aloft/Element fits in better than the colors they chose for 823 Congress and you all know how much I hate that wall.. Almost as much as The_Genral's distaste of 801 Barton Springs...

You're welcome to join my therapy sessions. I've gone from really really hate it to just really hate it. But if someone gets a chance, could you please get a pick of this paint job.

Not sure. But as of yesterday it's a very ugly sky blue.
