The L.A. area has one of the highest population densities in the U.S., so transit if convenient and fast will be used. Some of the census districts just west of downtown have population densities in excess of 40,000 per square mile, higher than most U.S. cities.
This is very true and there's loads of families from India, China, Mexico, Russia, Ukraine, South Korea and the Philippines that live 5-9 in a two-three bedroom apt or townhome and pool their cash resources together in many of these areas (the common white American doesn't seem to do this, however it makes great sense to cover high housing costs and expenses).
