I was actually thinking about doing a photo thread of both of these, but I guess now I don't really have to.

Thanks for the cool pics.

Edit: Anyone know why the Hoffman Tower is all boarded up? I thought it was going to be turned into some sort of museum.

i know this area well. i live right next to both of these towns and usually pass through each of them few times a week. sometimes if im bored at night ill just get in the car and take a drive through riverside. nothing better to calm the nerves. that 3rd picture is a shot of grumpys icecream. no better place to be on a hot summer day.

what street is that last pic taken from? is that madison?

My girlfriend and I took a walking tour of Oak Park two weekends ago. It was great! What a model suburb, and some of those Frank Lloyd Wright homes are amazing.

Of all the times I have been in Chicago, I have never been to either of these inner suburbs.

Thanks for the comments!

spyguy - Please do a photo thread of these towns if you get a chance, I didn't take pictures of any of the amazing homes found in Riverside, or the great main street downtowns of Forest and Oak Park.

Via Chicago - Very close to Madison, it is from Chicago Avenue.

Ah wonderfull Riverside and Oak Park, part of that wonderfull little cluster with River Forest and Berwyn. All examples of great suburbs we forgot how to build. No matter what stuff is thrown up to replicate these places, it nevers comes close to the real thing. Thanks for the pics.

A friend of mine lived in Oak Park a long time ago and I loved visiting him there during that time. The town is one huge photo-opp, in fact I took many of the same shots you show here.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

oak park built to a great scale.
those are some of the larger homes in the place, but it has plenty of neighborhoods of smaller well-built homes. plenty 80 and 100 years old
it's all on chicago's street grid and the green line runs through the middle of it.
