Turning Torso - July 16th 2008

One important reason for me to visit Malmö was to view the Turning Torso, the beautiful Calatrava-building.
Here’s a series of pictures. For you guys living in Malmö, surely very familiar pix.

Hope you like them anyway!

1. From a distance.

2. A zoom picture.

3. Close shot.

4. The entrance.

5.

6.

7. Detail of the building.

8.

9.

10. A sunbeam enlightens the building.

11.

12. A few shots of the surroundings of the building. Looks like a former harbour area with new apartment buildings.

13. Looks like a nice area for families with children.

14.

15.

16.

17.

18. Back to the building.

19.

20. Window washers on the building.

21. Zooming in.

22. Twin towers.

Nice! I do recognize most of these angles, but frankly I don't get tired of this building seen from any angle.

Great pics once again!

One of the sexiest towers built anywhere. People talk all about how the 'twist' is so trite and overdone now. I've still yet to see another tower built with one that has even 10% of the grace that this one has.

Beautiful.

Great to see pictures from Scandinavia's tallest.
It's the only "real" skyscraper in Scandinavia!

Easily one of the coolest buildings on the planet. I never have seen the base. Thanks.

Best pictures of the building I've seen yet. On picture #4 the building looks thin like a stick but from other angles it looks wide. And the last picture was fantastic.

How do people living in that building feel about living in a world class building? And specially since there are people taking pictures of it all the time. There must be no privacy. I imagine you can see though the glass on sunny days right?

The glass is pretty dark, I think people have enough privacy, even on sunny days.

Aleks,

The two bottom cubes are offices, and the rest of the units are too high up for you to be able to see anything anyway. Non-tenants are restricted to enter the building at all (except for some exclusive tour groups) so I think privacy is relatively good for such a prominent building.

I remember it being said about Calatrava buildings: they can become tourist attractions to any city! Like Milwaukee's winged lakefront museum, which has become the new symbol of Milwaukee.

When Calatrava's bird-like World Trade Center transit stop is finished, for a tourist attraction, it may eclipse the Statue of Liberty!

If this is an apartment building, I'd want to part of it, as I must have, must have a nice comodious balcony. No balcony, no go!!!

he doesn't understand how a forum works/the archive works too well and he can pick and choose what's interesting without regard to the etiquette of new threads.

Nice pictures of our landmark building
I rarely visit Västra Hamnen wintertime even if I'm a Malmö resident!
