Cool! That sheet metal roof would never last here with the hail.

That would depend on the thickness of the sheetmetal used.

I thought this was an interesting story. A developer getting in trouble for straying from the specifications of a development approval.

(A number of years ago, there was a case in Halifax where a developer decided to put an extra floor on a building.)

Here's the pair of elevations showing the differences:

One big change is that the top floors were supposed to be glass instead of metal panelling. I think that would make it look better. The developer may be forced to make that modification.

Turned out great, even better than the rendering IMO.

Looks a hell of a lot like Halifax's new library. Same architect I assume?

Remai Modern was designed by KPMB.

I believe that the Halifax library was a partnership between a Danish and local NS firm.

They're definitely both cut from similar cloth though.

It's a stunning building in person. I paid admission just to see the architecture (the music museum is kinda short on content). I'm not sure if it's some bad photoshop going on here or if the tiles are really that different in the one section. I can't remember in real life. The people are clearly photoshopped though and the exterior wasn't quite finished when this article came out so I know they photoshopped the corners to look complete.

So jealous! It's nothing short of pathetic that Calgary can't get together the funds to even open the old Planetarium as an art space this decade and Saskatoon can build such a beautiful modern art museum.

I'm definitely planning to check it out when I'm in Calgary this August. I saw it under construction last time I was in the East Village but that was also during the depths of winter so excited to be able to explore during nice weather.

Make sure you go when they have the organist playing the old theatre sound system. That was worth it. Without that the content was kinda thin. I think they play it twice a day. I went there around 5:00pm I think.

Also do me a solid and take a picture at the top if you can. I'm really curious if they fucked up the tile that bad or it's just photoshop.

Edit: With the help of Google I found some other pics. For some strange reason it looks like they got rid of the gapping in the tiles in a section near the middle. I have no idea why unless it's just in an effort to keep people from trying to pry them off or something. Looks really sloppy though.

Looking at an original rendering from Allied Architects it appears they planned it to have multiple patterns. Not quite like this though.
