Talking ST. JOHN'S | Fortis Place | 49 Metres | 12 Floors | U/C

Fortis Place is currently the tallest building under construction in St. John's, the capital of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador (Population: 106,000 City, 198,000 Metro). Our tallest barely meets the minimum requirements of this category, ha!

It already has it's own SkyScraperPage profile.

The building is currently under construction. You can see the construction site on the left side of this panorama, taken August 30, 2012:

It is also located on the left side of this panorama, taken August 29, 2012:

A few more photos.

In this one, it is also on the left. The building on the right is 351 Water Street. It won't be as tall as Fortis:

Puzzling renders. I took them for a completed building for a second.
It happens when the rendering quality is that accurate.

It's under construction, and has reached the 5 or 6 storey level now, and without a tower crane. The design is quite nice, but would have looked better if it was about three stories higher.

Nnnooo... it's the San Francisco of the North!

But, hey... maybe in a few thousand years we'll be able to give NYC a run for its money, lol!

Love the renders. They're a lot more unique than what I would have expected or have to come to expect from smaller proposals. Can't wait to see how this shapes up!

I like the tower, and I think its great that St. John's is enhancing its already impressive skyline. The advantage here is that it doesn't take much to create an impression on the cityscape. A few more 10-15 storey buildings I think should do it.

Unlikely because within a few thousand (or tens of thousands of years) a new glacial ice age will extend south from the artic and take out St John's slightly before it wipes out NYC.

But anyway, St Johns is a stunning setting and city.
