The skyline view from the south hides most of the buildings, because you're looking at only the tallest buildings, which all happen to be closest to the waterfront. That's the most prevalent shot because that's the one where you see the river. The only problem is that it makes it look like Detroit has a small skyline. Looking at the skyline from the north shows a compact skyline with many layers. You have the tallest towers in the back and it sort of steps down from there. The skyline view from the east and west are somewhat similar, as you're seeing the long end of the "stick", though because Detroit's skyline is so compact to begin with, you don't see as many buildings from the other side.
