WG does San Francisco

This is my second and final part of my Bay Area series and of course it would not be complete by not stopping in the City of Bay Windows. As many times I have visited the city I have never came to the conclusion that it is my favorite city in the US. I can say that it is now after NYC without any hesitation. The city is an absolute b**** to drive in and I love it for that. Here is the tour.

Stepping into texasboy's neighborhood

The next day. Cheapest parking found in the Tenderloin.

Goodnight

Thanks for taking my picture:

At the arrow tip

But, seriously, a very different perspective and very satisfying. I'm left wondering how you got access to some of the venues. It appears maybe you were staying at the Hilton.

I love the rows of apartment buildings. How much would rent be in one of those?

It would also be nice to have pretty good weather year-round.

Rent would be expensive and the weather is cool and damp for about 6 months of the year.

^^^He's boasting. It's cool and damp more like 9+ months of the year. It's just that in the "summer" it doesn't rain and the dampness comes in form of mist and "low clouds" which some would call fog.

Not sure what "rows of apartment buildings" you are referring to, someone123, but you can see what SF rents are like at http://www.rent-sf.com/avg_rent.html . Many of the pictures were taken in the Tenderloin (called "downtown" in the list), some in the Haight and some in North Beach . But "downtown and North Beach have some pretty pricey units dragging up the averages so I'd figure on maybe $1000-$1200 per month in the Tenderloin, more like $1800 in North Beach and go with the figure given of $1600 in the Haight for a 1 bedroom. Now, of course, all sorts of people are going to tell me how wrong I am and I may be, but at least then you'll have your answer.

Not only is San Francisco on one of the most beautiful settings imaginable, it's also incredibly dense and urban - what's not to love? I'll be there in less than three weeks.

San Francisco...where you have to park perpendicular to the street...

I'm digging all the pics, thanks a lot!

You probably understand that part of the reason for parking that way is to avoid the issue of cars rolling down the hill, and in that regard you should be aware that it's the law here that when you parallel park you have to "curb" your front wheels. But, of course, the really hard part for some of us with a few years on us is opening that driver's side door when it's on the uphill side of the car. You don't realize how heavy a car door is until you've done this.

you could always find "good" deals renting 2bdr in-laws around sunset/ingleside while splitting rent with a roomie. if you want to live near haight, inner sunset's a cheaper alternative.

Nice pictures! San Francisco reminds me of Dubuque, Iowa, although not quite as impressive.

No way. SF's way more diverse than Dubuque. And it's got hills. What's Dubuque got that SF doesn't? SF has at least as much to offer as Dubuque does. At least.

Well, in light of recent events, "Baghdad by the Bay" no longer seems an appropriate moniker. So, perhaps, "Dubuque of the West"?
