most of dubai's development came after the age of automobile penetration and air conditioning. thus it's unrealistic to expect its residents to engage in pedestrian activity in the searing heat. dubai's ambitious plans for mass transit are a good sign, and hopefully it will have the population density and connectivity needed to support viable mass transit.

The "dirty Dubai" part includes the most interesting pictures I have ever seen of Dubai. Gives it a human aspect - something I've never seen before in pictures.

I'd love to see more pics from the Old Town - so please share them if you got some.
Thanks

Dubai was more pedestrian friendly 2 years ago. It was really bad this time, because of the construction of the Dubai Metro.

The old coe of Dubai is as pedestrian friendly as any other city. The new areas are not that nice to walk.

Siberian: Thank you.
No i haven`t visited Abu Dhabi. Beause of the bad weather i couldn`t do as much as i wanted.

New pix from the 3rd day.

Let`s call it the culture and urbanity day.
I started on the right side and i walked to the Jumeirah Mosque.

I like this skyscraper

A other mosque on my way.

From left to right.
The next worlds tallest hotel
Some time ago: the worlds tallest residential tower
The next worlds tallest structure.

The Jumeirah mosque.
According to my Dubai guide it`s the most beautiful mosque in Dubai

It`s possible to go inside, but if you wear like me short trousers you have to take such clothes

Inside the mosque

A nice woman explained many things to us.She also showed us how to wear the traditional clothes.

Next trip. I visited the real cre of Dubai.
I started from the top.

Many people call Dubai teh city of gold.

The Gold Souk

The Creek

Amazing photography Tom_green , but i do agree, the intro was a little cheesy but i liked the amount of sweat and effort thats gone into your work

Dubai is pedestrian friendly in the olderp arts and absaloutely not in the new areas , though some like the Dubai marina are. The heat doesnt help, were obliged to use cars like alot of car oriented cities of the world.

Great pictures, and I appreciate the mapping on Google Earth

It is truly an odd city though...I agree with all the planning comments, and some of those buildings are truly hideous - even the height doesn't make it better...definitely similarities to Vegas.

Are they still paying skilled labour US$7/day to build the Burj?

Let`s continue

The second part of my third day.

It starts where the first one ended.

Skyscrapers and trafic jam = Dubai

Something that many many people don`t know about Dubai.

The view was better in the afternoon but still not very good.

Did you know that Dubai can be that dense?

I met Altin and dubaiflo in the evening. The two Dubai experts underestemated the traffic jam in Dubai. :ohno:

My first night shot of the Burj Dubai.

I want to thank Altin and dubaiflo for meeting me. It was really nice.
I hope we can meet again someday.
You should visit this thread. There are many pics of the meeting.

This is where i walked.

I think this pic would be perfect for people who think Dubais skyscrapers are build by oil money.

There are just too many of them in Dubai.

The SZR

The next pics are taken from Palm Jumeirah.

Big construction.

Now it`s time to look up

The Dubai Marina.

great thread

wow those are some damn wide roads.

and it looks like theyre getting even wider

they need some serious fabric buildings, too many iconic buildings trying to scream louder than the next

looks like an interesting place to visit for a few days but seems a little too much like SimCity with the cheat codes on

Wow, what a trip this must have been. You know its a very different city that is for sure. A city of wonder with an air of mystery to it. The amount of growth is just unreal. It has some intresting aspects, the whole intro, now that is something else...

Thank you

I need to thank smussuw again for driving me at first to the WTC Tower and inviting me to the observation deck and later driving me to Business Bay.

If you ever visit Dubai you should go to the WTC observation deck.

The most evil looking tower in Dubai.

I don`t like only skyscrapers in Dubai
