Savannah Development

Today, a deal was finally closed on the infamous Savannah River Landing site just east of the downtown historic district. This property has been owned by four firms in the past 15 years, and has spent the last 9 of those years in legal limbo after the original development stalled when the 2008 recession hit. This occurred in the early phases of construction, leaving behind a network of abandoned avenues and bulldozer tracks.

Finally, the site is back in business after two Atlanta-based firms acquired the property for just over $30,000,000 under the joint "Savannah River Landing LLC". The new development proposed by these firms will be massive (for Savannah at least) and is projected to cost $500,000,000 to complete.

The plan calls for two ten-story mixed-use buildings, a boutique hotel, a subdivision of private homes, and a supermarket. The Savannah Meteopolitian Planning Commission approved this project in March of this year, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of construction has been scheduled for the spring of 2018. The entire development is expected to take eight years to complete. Hopefully the development won't fall through (again).

In the coming months, construction will begin on the Edewater Resort timeshare development on Hutchinson Island. The project plan calls for over 300 units and two 11 story towers, as well as a pool facility built from the abandoned cement silos currently on the property.

The property has a brilliant view of downtown Savannah, however it's location will make travel to downtown difficult. To make the area more attractive, the City of Savannah plans to build a police station and fire station on Hutchinson Island next year. Talk of adding another stop on the Savannah River Ferry has also surfaced.

Edgewater Resort

This is a pretty awful design, particularly for a place like Savannah. Jersey City or Myrtle Beach, yes. Savannah, no.

I couldn't agree more. Also, you can't see it in that picture, but they plan to keep several abandoned cement silos which currently stand on the property. Apparently, they're going to convert them into some sort of pool area, but it will probably just make them look even worse than they already are.

No, those concrete silos will perfectly compliment this design😀

Savannah Trade and Convention Center Expansion

A few days ago the final design for the proposed expansion of the Savannah Trade and Convention Center was released in a video. According to the video the project is ready to begin construction, but still needs state funding and approval. The project already has the support of the Mayor and City Council and has been approved by the county.
The expansion will include a 40,000 square foot ballroom, a 900 space parking garage, and a 300 room hotel.
From the rumors I’ve heard, the Hotel will be an Omni. The new hotel will be (approximately) 20 stories tall, and will likely be the tallest building in downtown Savannah, overtaking the nearby Westin Hotel.

I didn't realize there was a Savannah thread on SSP.

Here's some of the major under construction projects.
