Zamboni driver turning aside 8 of 10 shots definitely made my week. And seeing Boston lose by an unconverted touchdown was pretty funny.

I'm tempted to go online on the 'Canes website and buy his jersey.

Me as well, we needed a good news story. I loved the crowd reaction to the first star.

They lost to a 42-year old zamboni driver... who works for them!

It still feels weird. This is potentially more embarrassing than the 4-1 game 7. Haven't seen the fanbase like this in a long time. The emotions always swing wildly from excitement and overexpectations to anger, disappointment, etc. but I don't know I've ever seen this level of complete apathy. Like there was this feeling that they were finally doing things right, starting top-down with management and drafting and scouting well, developing players, etc. All just to end up with a group of players who still seem afflicted with the same blue-and-white disease.

Did have to give props to the fans at the game who instantly switched from booing the home team to cheering for Ayres after the final whistle. There's no one in the city who isn't as ecstatic for the guy as they are disgusted with the players.

At least we have the Raptors who are the anti-leafs. A bunch of undrafted players who show up every game and play their asses off.

Disappointed with the Flames moves today, was hoping for a splash on the scoring front.

Ennis is a great pickup. Guy was one of the best fourth liners I've ever seen last year and that kind of energy is sorely missed.

de Adder in the Halifax Chronicle Herald. (via Twitter)

I see that Ayres was making the rounds on all the US morning talk shows. He's also getting flown to Raleigh NC, is having a civic day named after him, and will be presented to fans at the Hurricanes arena on Tuesday night. I hope this is available on Sportsnet..

I hate the times we live in. They have blown this moment in time up so far that I find the comical situation and the follow up amazing performance has been undermined with nauseating adulation. Of course some is to be expected from both the Leafs and Hurricanes end but the man doing the whole circuit is nuts. The must have jerseys with little more than a 15 minute life also reflects everything I hate about these times.

I don't know, playing in a professional sport is fantasy for millions of people, and a regular joe getting called up to the big leagues has been played out in Hollywood multiple times for a reason. It's a pretty damn unique situation, and couldn't really happen in any other sport.

It's a fun story and people are enjoying it, what's wrong with that?

Fair point. The jerseys are analogous to having to take a selfie in front of something just for the sake of it. They'll end up at the back of people's closets for years until they are sent to a landfill. I feel the same about the national tour. I have nothing against him. He should capitalize on every fraction of a cent. He only got paid $500 for a period and a half and those people parading him around for ratings and selling merchandising are probably just as cheap.

FFS, now Yamamoto is week to week with an ankle injury.

This is not what the Oilers needed.
