From The Burg magazine. The new building on the corner of State and 2nd is now fully rented. Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is renting the upper two stories and First National is taking the ground floor for a branch bank and the 2nd floor for regional headquarters. They are moving into the city from Susquehanna Township.

Hmm very strange, as it worked fine for me up until right now and when I just checked it again. But yeah, you are definitely right and something has gone haywire! But hey, at least you were able to post the awful song again and make sure people didn't miss it.

These are some pictures I took of a highrise under construction along Reily street down the road from the HACC Midtown campus. Not exactly sure what this building is, but maybe someone knows. I think it's a great addition to the city.

That is the 1500 project. It will have about 35 condos if I remember correctly.

Harrisburg city's fiscal overseer abruptly quits

By Marc Levy
Associated Press

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Gov. Corbett will move swiftly to find another financial custodian to restore stability to Pennsylvania's debt-laden capital city after his first appointee said Friday he was resigning, a Corbett spokesman said.

The custodian, municipal bond lawyer David Unkovic, had been confirmed to the post in December by a state Commonwealth Court judge.

Corbett spokesman Kevin Harley called his resignation "unexpected and unfortunate," but said he did not know his reasons for resigning. Unkovic did not return messages left at his office and home Friday.

On Wednesday, Unkovic told reporters he was asking state and federal prosecutors to look into an auditor's report on the financing for renovation of the city trash incinerator. Unkovic complained he was not getting cooperation from the various creditors suing the city.

His plans included tax increases on city residents and selling or leasing city assets, such as parking garages. He also warned that seeking federal bankruptcy protection would be an option if parties with a financial stake in Harrisburg did not pitch in to wipe out the debt.

Harley said Corbett had not been unhappy with Unkovic's actions as the receiver.

"The governor believed that the receiver would be independent, and certainly Dave was acting independently of the administration, as appropriate," Harley said.

Harrisburg is dogged by a number of financial problems, with incinerator debt the most pressing. The city and an authority that owns the incinerator are tens of millions of dollars behind in payments on the approximately $300 million in debt tied to it, and city officials have not developed a plan to repay it.

Friday night I headed out for 3rd in the Burg. I stopped in the Midtown Scholar. They had lots of good music.

I picked up a book on the history of Harrisburg called "City Contented, City Discontented" I am about halfway though it. It is a very good read. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in how Harrisburg has arrived at where it is.
(Funny sidenote, apparently trash and incinerators/dumps have always been a problem... )

Barto Building and William Seel building (both downtown) are getting converted to Residential by Dan Deitchman. (The guy doing the Kunkel building and converted the Riverview manor)

the seel building is to be 25 unit multifamily, and the Barto building is 45k sq. ft. so I would assume it could house at least 45 units of decent size.

read more in the May issue of The Burg Magazine page 15.

I believe this is exciting stuff. The development of the CBD of Harrisburg continues to build steam.

Other news in the May issue of the burg is HACC is building housing for 400 students near its midtown campus replacing several razed blocks on 4th street

400 people is about the number that Harrisburg gained between the 2000 and the 2010 census.

"First new chic art-deco condominiums built in the City of Harrisburg in more than 20 years
43 residences (studios, one-bedrooms, two-bedrooms, and one/ two-bedrooms with lofts)

PS - This apartment building on N. Front Street looks like a pretty sweet location.

Also, I can't believe the city came this close to building a 40 story tower that would've put Harrisburg on the map (high rise speaking). The Forum Place, only to end up a mid rise building.

Apparently the momentum from Harrisburg's new anthem has fizzled.

I know someone who has done work in the Forum and according to them the foundation for the Forum is actually retrofitted to still hold a 40 story building. Now the chances of a full build out of the Forum happening are about as good as Stephen Reed returning as mayor.
