phase 2 of true north looks horrible!! there is absolutely no relation between phase 2 and phase 1, which is actually really quite nice. The top of the towers look sloppy and lazy architecturally speaking. i'd expect this sort of design in the 90's.

Yeah, agreed. I'm happy to see they're going ahead, but they are awful. They could save a million dollars just removing those horrid roof elements and it would actually be a passably decent design.

Also,

River Landing - Saskatoon - 93 meters, 63 meters, 55 meters

A new nothing infill tower just started construction in the Beltline yesterday. Not the worst design we've ever seen, but far from good.

That's a fair enough building. Good for Calgary, filler is better than an underdeveloped site (in many cases*).

Actually two 80+ year old homes and a small 3 storey apartment building were demolished for this one. So I wouldn't exactly say it was underdeveloped. It'll help with density for sure, but it's in the central Beltline which already has 25 000 people in only 2 km2. I'd prefer to see stuff like this in the East Beltline which is basically a blank slate to redevelop.

Brookmere in Coquitlam is pretty complete now.

2019-02-22_04-29-51 by snub_you, on Flickr

Lougheed Heights, this was the last tower to start going up, the other two look to be topped out but got no pics

2019-02-22_04-29-32 by snub_you, on Flickr

The spot where the Meridian will go has been cleared now. You can see the Burquitlam Capital in the background, its getting closer to finishing.

2019-02-22_04-29-20 by snub_you, on Flickr

I am not sure what this one is called, but its in Coquitlam next to Regan's Walk

2019-02-22_04-28-24 by snub_you, on Flickr

The building where the Sydney will be going up is now empty and ready to demolish.

2019-02-22_04-26-42 by snub_you, on Flickr

The City of Lougheed, phase 1 is starting to demolish part of the mall now, just to the right.
2019-02-22_03-43-02 by snub_you, on Flickr

this is where the mall will be getting demolished

I was intending to check to see if my remark (re; underdeveloped) was factual, but didn't, apologies. That is unfortunate to hear in hindsight.

Calgary is no longer the city approaching 1 million. It is now approaching 2 million. It's desirable for the downtown to take on some of that growth. There are many low to highrise in the Beltline surrounded by surface parking but there really aren't undeveloped high rise ready lots. Things will have to come down.

The houses were quaint. In a perfect world, they would have saved one and built a taller slimmer apartment building beside it. These are not grand, masonry structures. They were simple wood sided homes that have seen many renovations over the years. It's hard to come up with a reason to preserve them.

Yesterday I was walking around Scarborough, starting from the Golden Mile. I took a quick stroll out to Lawrence and Birchmount, my eyes were distraught to see the following buildings go up, partly because one of them looked putrid without the cladding...this is 2150 Lawrence East, the first phase is occupied, the others are not far from finishing.

They have a fugly website;http://www.2150condos.com/

Here's an image I took of the Sonic twin condo towers, taken from Bayview just north of Lawrence, taken ten days ago;

Mississauga's seeing a good bit of growth now....but this was the most notable update I could find without repeating progress, in Amacon's Parkside Village;

And finally, demolition on the E2 condo site...which seemingly has slowed down;
