Today there's a work crew from WWF Construction, Sewer and Water on site. A back hoe and a dumptruck. They weren't doing much this morning, couple of guys were standing around talking...

All the trees on the property have been cut down over the weekend, except for near the riverbank and on the boulevard. I didn't see any equipment on site though. It looked so bare driving by.

Well if they cut down the trees then I'd better hope that it is going through.

Yeah but Winnipeg's gravel parking lots have that nice cream coloured gravel. Very world class.

vid, that would be Manitoba Tyndall Lime; it's what many prominent Winnipeg structures were built with back in the day.

I hope this spot won't be a parking lot. How could this even be justified? "Well, the tower won't be built, but let's chop down these trees for parking anyways?" Sometimes I think developers in this town can get away with anything....

Is there a 0% chance that maybe it will be parking, but only in temporary fashion, while they rework the bland design of the proposed tower? Perhaps this is wishful thinking. My fantasy would be that a) the tower does get built, and b) that it isn't the same colour as a damn gravel parking lot.

yes they are they said they were going forward with the project, the only reason it has been delayed is because of the city taking forever to remove the hydro lines from the area or something!!!!! They stated that the project would be delayed til next spring if they hydro lines were not moved promptly. They are now focusing on their other projects and begin work on this one at a later date.

We use Tyndall Limestone in Thunder Bay too. But just on buildings.

They went nuts with it here in the 70's, slapped on just about everything they built, if they had an auto plant here at the time I'm sure the wagon model would have had it on the sides.

waste of a foster in my opinion.
I'm not sure how you could say there's no original thinking in the design of the Bow? Show me another building on the planet that is similar to the Bow, and yes, Toronto City hall has a similar floor plate, but it's not a close enough comparison. The Hearst building has similar glazing and bracing is the only one that even comes close glazing wise, but it's shape is nowhere near similar.
Outside of the diagonal braces that some of his other buildings have there aren't any similarities to any other buildings anywhere. The shape is completely unique..... The Bow would stand out in any city in the world, even NYC, or HK, etc...

As far as the vantage points go, it looks large only from two of the four angles, and actually looks super thin from other angles....even that in itself makes it unique.

I can understand the gripe some people have with the size, but I fail to see how it could be consider unoriginal.

The Ascent in Cincinnati (Kentucky actually)

Those two examples have a somewhat similar floorplate and that's where it ends. There's also a building in Sao Paulo Brazil that has curvy floorplates too, but that's also where it ends.

When you combine the floorplate shape and height, there isn't a building like it, only a few that are somewhat similar. As I mentioned earlier the Bow would stand out in any skyline in the world....even NYC, HK, Chicago, etc... Well, with the possible exception of Dubai....there are some pretty crazy looking buildings there.
