Liberty’s regional director, John Gattuso, said that he was aware of the school's expansion plans, and that his company endorses them.
“The Byers School is proceeding with the renovation of their building because they need to accommodate a larger enrollment in the coming school year,” Gattuso said. “It’s totally independent of any potential plans or timing for the development of the site.”
Is the structure on the west side where the construction elevators are going up and down (in the very middle of the building) also the Lantern, or will it be removed once the building is complete? It looks like it could be the lantern, but it does kinda stick out farther than I though it was supposed to.

They're just temporary and will be removed. There are little concrete forms that jut out from the west side hidden under the temporary elevators which will be encased in glass and form the "spine" of the lantern.
Check out the South (left) side terrace. Last week they had the wooden forms up. Over the last weekend or early this week they did the pour. Looks to be some kind of waste high wall. Guessing it's something for the balcony on the private condos.

I saw that from Temple this afternoon and wondered the same thing. I hope this is the beginning of the portion of the building that will place Philly on the exclusive list of cities with supertalls!
Looks like more diagonal braces (including the blue film) on the west side - or at least the left side of the west side. No noticeable glass installation since I checked the other day. Guess they're focusing on interior stuff.
Once the cooling equipment is up, is it then totally different crews that work on actually connecting things and running pipes / ducts / etc.? Meaning, a lot of things will be handled in parallel, right?

If you look closely, you can see the steel beams extending above the top.
