Greensboro-based RF Micro Devices works with San Diego company

RF Micro, partner come out with Bluetooth technology product
After seven months of collaboration, Greensboro-based RF Micro Devices Inc. and Silicon Wave of San Diego have come out with a new product that will allow computers, printers and other electronic devices to communicate with each other wirelessly.

RF Micro invested in Silicon Wave in May to begin a collaboration effort. This week, the companies announced new products that can replace cable connections between computers and peripheral electronic devices for wireless communication.

"By leveraging our Bluetooth expertise, (original equipment manufacturers) can quickly integrate this off-the-shelf serial cable replacement solution into their products and dramatically accelerate their time to market," said Steve Brown, vice president of business development for Silicon Wave.

One of the typical uses for the new technology would be for handheld bar code scanners to replace their cable connections to portable printers with this new technology, he said. The scanner could send information wirelessly to the printer using the new technology.
