For a programmer to go out of his way to create a program for that purpose, or for Mr. dePortzamparc/his designee to chose what color panel should go where on the E/W sides, it's a labor of love either way.

In short, the detailing of this tower is just as painstaking as obtaining and building around the dimensions of the parcel it's built on.

PS: The pano kicks ass. Expect much more activity by this time next year.

It is indeed film. It is there to protect against accidents from the crane that is overhead. Although it is the East side that is uncovered, and the West side (blue part) that is still in film.

Have you looked at the glass in person? I was just there on Friday and the West side looks like the protective coating has been removed. I'm not certain as it is rather high but it really looks like there is no protective plastic on the East or West side of the building.

If the glass looks unusually blue in some areas, such as the 57th street side, then the glass still has protective covering on it. Only temporary until the tower gains enough height and cladding.

The 57th street side is the South side and that plastic coating is obvious and besides the bubbles noticeable from the street the reflective quality is dulled. The East and West sides have the reflective quality of glass.

An older pic, but it makes you ask - who's blocking who here?

Article about the effects of One57 construction on the views at Metropolitan Tower:
http://therealdeal.com/blog/2012/05/...-versus-one57/

B and C line apartments still have decent park views, since they face diagonally northeast over the park. The A line, though, which is at the "point" of Met Tower's triangular design, is pretty screwed. But they still have views over the Hudson into Jersey... so that's something.

And it still has another 200 some feet to go. It's going to be thin as hell.

That shot is a beauty! Even being a relatively thin building in a very dense area, it will make a nice impact on the skyline.

That really is a great shot. It's nice to see it compared to other buildings. Its very thin but still noticeable, and it will be even more eye catching when its taller and completely cladded in that beautiful glass
