I'm surprised that people don't like the skybridge. I think it looks great!

You and me both Reeder113. Many also either like the bridge, or are neutral. For some, the dislike stems from what they think will be a drain on Main Street traffic. I tend to think that necessary steps have been taken to more than assure both a vibrant Main Street, and a convenient connectivity between what will be two bustling blocks. I love the curvature design and ample glass of the bridge.

New Mountain View Corridor roadway in Lehi opens Saturday

Deseret News

LEHI - A new major east-west corridor is about to open for commuters in northwest Utah County.

The first phase of the Mountain View Corridor will open on Saturday. The three-mile stretch of road is a connection between I-15 and Redwood Road at 2100 North in Lehi. This project features two new bridges, a bike path and a walking trail along the Jordan River.

"It's a great benefit to the community right here in this area, as well as the communities outside of Lehi — Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs, anyone who needs to access I-15 and make an east-west movement in Utah County — this facility is really going to help," said Teri Newell, project coordinator for UDOT...

Provo Westside Connector road project moving ahead

By Jason Lee, Deseret News

PROVO — The federal government has given the go-ahead for construction of a new thoroughfare that would give Utah County drivers improved access to the west side of I-15.

The Obama administration has put the proposed Provo Westside Connector on a fast-track for federal approval.

Construction of the new roadway from the I-15 University Avenue interchange to Provo Airport could start in about a year. The Provo Westside Connector is one of 14 projects nationwide that the government deemed would help boost the economy in targeted areas...

Southern Metro Updates Continued...

Historic, Fire Ravaged Provo Tabernacle will become a Temple; speed up downtown development

The Provo Tabernacle in Provo on Monday, Oct. 3, 2011. The city will be offering facade
renovation grants to revitalize downtown Provo. (Kristin Murphy, Deseret News)

By Steve Fidel
The Deseret News

PROVO — News that the burned-out shell of the LDS Church's Provo Tabernacle will be rebuilt as a temple fits ideally
with years of ongoing downtown redevelopment and has the wheels turning even faster at City Hall.

"This complements decades of work and preserves the building, which is the most important thing to Provo residents,"
Mayor John Curtis said Monday.

The work the temple complements is the revitalization of the downtown area, where highrise offices, newer city facilities
and a not-yet-finished convention center are still the backdrop to Center Street facades that are tired looking and in
disrepair.

The city is offering facade renovation grants to downtown businesses, waiving building fees and working to condemn
and demolish one shuttered Center Street storefront...

Intel/Micron Flash to pour $1.5B into Lehi plant; it and EMC Corp. also to add 700

...IM Flash Technologies said it would pour $1.5 billion into its flash memory chip plant in Lehi and add 200 jobs that
will help ensure its presence in Utah for years to come as it faces fierce international competition.

At the same news conference in Lehi, Massachusetts-based EMC Corp. said it will be hiring about 500 tech-savvy
employees for a customer-service operation in Utah to service clients worldwide of its computing hardware and software
used to create and manage large banks of computers called clouds...

Lehi megaplex getting upgrade, expansion

Between now and fall, Thanksgiving Point’s movie theater will go from being the smallest to one of the largest
— and most modern — of the Larry H. Miller Group’s theaters.

The Miller group is quadrupling the size of the Megaplex 8 Theatre in Lehi, adding nine screens and a food court.
The expansion will put it on par with Jordan Commons theater...

Long-awaited canal covering creates a 17 mile paved bike, hike, equestrian riding
trail

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...ike-trail.html

By Sharon Haddock - Deseret News

LINDON — When the ribbon's cut and people start legitimately biking, walking and riding their horses on the trail over
the Provo Reservoir/Murdock Canal, no one will have a bigger grin on his face than Utah County Commissioner Larry
Ellertson.

Lindon resident, horseman and former mayor of the north Utah County town, he's waited patiently and worked tirelessly
for the trail since before 1995...

...Price expects the 15-foot wide, 17-mile long asphalt trail linking Lindon and Orem through to the Thanksgiving Point/
Cabela's area will be finished as early as the fall of 2012 — three years sooner than first projected.

The $17.25 million, multi-use trail will be open to bikers, walkers and equestrian riders from 800 North in Orem through
Lindon, Pleasant Grove, Cedar Hills, American Fork, Highland and Lehi, with six landscaped trailheads along the way...

The pipeline is covered and the box for the multi-use trail is readied to go under 100 East in
American Fork. (Jim Price, Mountainlands Association of Governments)

Downtown Update - Capitol Theatre renovation, Center for Dance get boost

(Tribune file photo) The Capitol Theatre in Downtown Salt Lake City.

By Mike Gorrell
The Salt Lake Tribune

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/politic...dance.html.csp

Ballet West officials had reason to dance Tuesday.

First, the Salt Lake County Council came through as expected, approving the allocation of $918,000 in Zoo, Arts and Parks (ZAP) tax funds to the troupe for its 2012 budget.

More important for the ballet’s long-term sustainability, council members all but approved a memorandum of understanding that assures the county would work hand in hand with the nonprofit group to renovate downtown Salt Lake City’s Capitol Theatre and to build a facility next to it that would house a "Center for Dance."...

BYU announces construction of new Life Sciences Building

University Communications — The Brigham Young University Board of Trustees has approved the construction of a new
Life Sciences Building, to be built on the south end of campus.

The Life Sciences Building will include 265,000 square feet of teaching and research space for the College of Life Sciences
and will be constructed on the hillside directly south of the John A. Widtsoe Building.

“The new Life Sciences Building will serve as a gateway for the south end of the BYU campus,” said Brian Evans,
Chief Financial Officer and Administrative Vice President at BYU. “It will be a welcoming and inviting building and will
include a center corridor that will lead students directly up the hill to campus.”

The Life Sciences Building will have a total of five levels, including a three-level, 250-stall parking structure that will
be integrated into the building. The building will be built at the current location of the Benjamin Cluff Building, which
will be razed prior to construction.

Construction will begin immediately and will be ongoing for approximately three years. The structure is estimated to
be completed and occupied toward the end of 2014.

When finished, the building will include 16 teaching labs, three auditoriums, four conference rooms and more than 70
academic offices. All faculty and labs currently located in the Cluff and Widtsoe buildings will be housed in the new
facility.

Following the completion of the new Life Sciences Building, the Widtsoe building will also be razed.

Okland Construction has been selected as the general contractor for the project.

Hundreds of new apartments being built in Davis County due to high demand

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...gh-demand.html

LAYTON — The real estate market may be in a slump, but parts of
Davis County are experiencing record numbers when it comes to new
home construction, with the demand for new rental homes
continually increasing.

Developers admit there is still some risk involved in the real estate
market, especially with slow job growth. However, hundreds of
new apartments are being built around the county.

In Farmington, more than 300 apartments are under construction and
about 600 are being built in Layton. The demand in both cities is at
record levels.
