My first trip to Canada and I went for the skyscraperiest city I could think of. If you have never been, Vancouver is home to the world's most orderly, obedient, and polite people. Even the buses say "sorry" when they aren't in service. I was politely called out several times for accidentally wandering into the "bicycles only" section of walking paths and accidentally going the wrong direction on a one way bike path. The place exudes a civic mindset and there is strong social pressure to obey the rules and be well behaved in public. In short, this is why America doesn't get to have nice things anymore.
Otherwise, it was a beautiful place, so thoroughly planned that it came off as slightly dull, but still very impressive. Residents should consider themselves quite fortunate to call this place home. Photos were shot in the worst conditions possible. Low 40's (F) and steady rain most of the time.
Great set - I love Vancouver so much. So glad it's only a 2.5-3 hours drive, and I definitely try to make it up there once a quarter.I just wish it wasn't so prohibitively expensive (thanks, Chinese).

I visited for the first time last month. I used to be critical of all those glass condos but was instantly won over. What an absolutely gorgeous, lush, good looking town. Didn't make it to Victoria but wouldn't it be more of the same, just smaller and cheaper?

victoria is a lot different, i love it there and its not cheaper, rentals there - i think every building i've seen has a waiting list sign on the outside.
Victoria feels much more coastal and a lot rockier, like big chunks of rock sticking out all over the place.
Victoria tp me feels like a little like east van within a bigger scale, also downtown kinda reminded me of new york in places but the lack of height.

Yes, Victoria is basically Vancouver-light, with less of everything, most notably, rain and traffic, although Victoria also doesn't have mountains right next to it. The houses and rent are cheaper too, not cheap but cheaper. Per capita, Victoria house prices and rent are probably the highest in the country but then we also have the nicest weather. Victoria is also much less multicultural than Vancouver.

Downtown Vancouver (the peninsula) is more built out that downtown Toronto. Walking around it feels denser. Where downtown Toronto wins is in height. I suppose downtown Toronto will eventually feel much denser when it fills in more. As much as Toronto is building it will take another 15 years and another 150 towers.
Thanks SpongeG and Phil McAvity for the responses regarding Victoria. Having lived in Halifax for many years I've long wanted to see how Victoria compares to it.
