First Canadian Place (aka First Bank Building) in Toronto, which is having its marble facade replaced by white fritted glass panels.

I love this building. To me it is arguably the most iconic skyscraper in NYC. That huge sloped roof is so dominant and prominent as you view Manhattan from the east. Especially for visitors arriving from KJFK or KLGA.

I read that article, then promptly raided my local university library to read some back issues of Engineering News-Record. I found some pretty cool schematics of the framework of this building. It's amazing what a complex system is hidden under that sleek, minimalist skin!

Does anyone have any photos of the atrium in this building? I remember it very well from the early 1980s when I worked in the area. I have always liked the building a great deal. When one considers the decade in which it was built, it is even more remarkable. I also recall St. Peter's Church quite well. It was the first and only place where I saw a Lutheran Sunday service, and I was surprised by how similar it was to the Catholic mass -- not to go off topic. This is still a stunning, forward thinking complex that has held up very, very well across the decades.
