For all my complaints though, I must give praise to Onni for the project's ambitious scale and their decision to not commission Chris Dikeakos as designer. That's more than you can say for Forest City and the banal crap they're building next to the beautiful Herald Examiner building.

I grimace at the thought of dtla becoming overbuilt. hopefully, the more, the merrier & better.

The proj next to the LA times bldg also is far off enough into the future, that it's hard right now to be waiting & wondering about it when the grand ave proj....in a location more visible than most other sections of dt....has been delayed for way too long. Or 4th & Hill St....important to the angel's flight & grand central mkt area.....has yet to break ground. Or the apt tower at 4th & broadway, which is more important to the northern stretch of broadway than 1st & broadway is right now.

will be a joke on me if 1st & broadway ends up under construction before 4th & hill or 4th & broadway.

^Doesn't that picture depict the older plan for the Grand Ave Project? The current plan is much downsized from that.

^ Correct, that massing for Grand Ave is out of date. The current one is a bit shorter.

Love the amount of units in this project. Disappointed the roofs are not flat but it is what it is. Hope the LA Times get to stay in their building.
I agree.

Of all the podiums, this is among the least offensive. Mainly because it’s atleast flush with the side of the tower.

Wilshire Grand is a start, but I’m still waiting for a skyline defining not-flat tower. I’m envious of SF's elegant renderings for Salesforce tower. Pelli always does eye-catching work. Even his very simple 777 South Fig tower often upstages the others around it.

What's the actual name of the project and who is doing it?

Frank Gehry is still designing the Grand Ave project. This is how it looks like now. Now if this is the version that we'll get, who knows with this project? At this point, I'd rather have BIG or SHoP design something truly grand. But honestly, this version isn't terrible at all.

Pelli's IFC in Hong Kong is elegant. SF is not.

Whatever the case, Pelli's best work is the Pacific Design Center. Pop shapes and colors and a slick curtain wall.

Excited about the Lucas Museum. It is a pretty distinctive form, but looking a little like a Tennis Shoe insert? Dr. Scholl building?

So it looks like the project is still relatively the same. The fact that he was invited to visit may bode well for the progress of the project.

This is pretty intriguing news.

Pelli’s Hong Kong tower is beautiful, but the SF tower isn’t a misstep for his firm at all, even with it’s simpler silhouette.

It’s still incredibly busy. I know Related is trying to squeeze every cent from this project, but it’s so inundated with retail spaces climbing on top of one another. This project should visually acquiesce to Disney Hall.

Don’t really care for the architecture nor of what I’ve heard of its collection. But what’s interesting is the gradient varied park space that surrounds the museum, assuming that’s not just rendering space filler.
