Southwestern B.C. warned to brace for storm

Southwestern B.C. warned to brace for storm

People in southwestern B.C. should brace for a storm Thursday, Environment Canada says.

High winds up to 90 km/h and up to 10 centimetres of snow are forecast for Vancouver Island, the South Coast and the Fraser Valley when a frontal system hits later in the day.

By noon PT, only one ferry run, between Vancouver Island and Alert Bay and Sontula, was cancelled due to the weather, while sailings between the Mainland and the Queen Charlotte Islands were delayed but still operating.

Meanwhile, the high volume of holiday season travellers was creating up to three sailing waits for vehicles on many routes between Vancouver Island and the Mainland.

BC Hydro had no reports of power outages due to the storm by noon PT.
