Smile NEW YORK | 38-39 9th Street | 129 FT | 13 FLOORS

Gotta start the week off on the right track, thus... here is a future Gene Kaufman hotel!

= = = = = = = =

Project:
38-39 9th Street

Quote:
Permits have been filed for a 13-story hotel at 38-39 9th Street, in Long Island City, Queens. The site is seven blocks away from the 21st Street-Queensbridge subway station, serviced by the F trains and the first stop in Queens. Hotel mogul Sam Chang will be responsible for the development.

The 129-foot tall structure will yield 123,650 square feet, with 111,630 square feet dedicated to commercial use. The establishment will have 324 guest rooms, averaging 345 square feet apiece. Visitors will have access to parking bicycle storage, a lobby, and fitness center. Each floor will have 27 rooms.

Gene Kaufman Architect will be responsible for the design.

Demolition permits have not yet been filed for the single-story structure. The estimated completion date has not been announced.

Construction Update: 181 Mercer Street

Extra Info:

Quote:
Excavation continues at 181 Mercer Street, the site of New York University’s 1.9 million square-foot expansion in Greenwich Village. The university’s scope of development for the enlarged campus includes razing The Jerome S. Coles Sports Center at 20-40 East Houston Street, and constructing a new 23-story sports center and performing arts facility in its place, which will have an address of 181 Mercer Street.

Initial filings indicate a 588,000-square-foot structure divided into two adjacent buildings with a landscaped public plaza. Designed by Davis Brody Bond along with KieranTimberlake, the building will contain an indoor pool, a runners’ track, and multiple fitness rooms.

Awful from SHOP here. Why on earth are they using such a brown color, it's disgusting and makes this el cheapo complex look even worse. Trying to mmick the old public housing commie blocks? Disappointing development, a crime against the city aesthetically. The first one in so gut wrenching.

The brown/bronze looks good. I love it. I could say you are wrong, but as you know these things are subjective so you are perfectly entitled to your incorrect opinion.

I just started seeing these posters around Park Slope, does anyone have an idea what proposals these morons are hysterical about?

Holy crap I just went to the link www.mtopp.org and if you want to see into the mind of a crazy nimby, this has ALL the bells and whistles! But I couldn't seem to find out anything about the actual proposals on there, it's in Crown Heights as the poster shows if anyone has a clue what this is about....

...

Europe would have done something brighter. They use color to good effect over there whereas nyc seems to prefer conservative looking palettes overall. Here I think color would have been more uplifting.

P.S - ignore the creepy troll who spreads his vicious lies about me, he will be here shortly.

I see what you are saying, and yes of course Europe seems to be more willing to use expressive color in architecture, but I really think this development looks good and I think the ensemble will look great all together when the development is complete.

I love the dark brown, elegant and beautiful. Much better than endless blocks of boring blue glass.
