It's going up fast. They are pouring the 15th floor already. Maybe before Halloween. I think the crane will get raised either next weekend or the weekend after.

Ugh. Watching the tower crane cam makes me dizzy. You can actually see it swaying in the wind. lol

So, on to my questions. Are there any people here in concrete construction? Looking at the cam, the concrete looks kinda rough. Also, a couple of days ago, I was thinking all the blue tubing around the rebar was for water piping, electrical conduits, etc. But I don't see anything really sticking up out of the poured concrete. Not to the extent to account for all the tubing. Is the blue tubing for something else? How do they handle the water piping and electrical conduits for high-rise construction? This is something I've never really looked into before having not seen the floor construction from this angle. Anyone have insight on this?

https://img.ueb.net/camImages/3rdPierce2.jpg

Edit: OK, since posting this, they are using a machine to smooth out the concrete. So that answers that. Still would like to know what all the blue tubing was in between the rebar. Will have to wait until the next floor is laid out to see it again.

There's generally a vertical tunnel similar to another elevator shaft that houses risers for water and conduit for electricity. They'll split off horizontally in the ceiling of each floor. Services are not poured into the concrete if that's what you're asking, you'd never be able to service anything if that were the case.

True dat. But any idea what the blue tubing is for?

I don't see any blue tubing. I see two blue things in the photo: 1. a worker holding a blue rope 2. caps on the concrete pipes.

So they are laying the blue tubing again. Grabbed a screenshot this time. Any idea? It appears to be going between the rebar.

Those look like tension cables for the post tension slabs.

I read they were building the Link with post tensioning slabs. I didn't know that's what these were used for. They must not be that heavy as I was watching a worker on the cam today move them around with relative ease. Thanks for answering.

There's a mobile crane lifting items to the top of the garage portion. Could this be for the purpose of adding additional sections to the tower crane?

I think this post-tensioning method is somewhat new.

Quote:
[UEB,]the Scottsdale-based general contractor and its subcontractors are using post-tension concrete decks to pour [Stewart's and Link's] 20- and 30-story concrete bases. This method provides a thinner floor section while maintaining a generous ceiling height, which results in an overall lower and more efficient building structure.

The blue tubing is post tension cables.

The Sheathing color is by manufacturer and means nothing. Color codes on the dead end of the cables are for installer purposes and are shown on the shop drawings. They are typically cables of different lengths and as such will have different elongations.

For example the Summit @ Copper Square has multiple types of cables for each floor and on the building plans calls out different color cables to use at each spot.

They haven't raised the tower crane any. The second mobile crane is installing pieces of the facade. I asked over the weekend about when the crane will get raised and the said around floor 20. But since I have been told different answers from the construction crew on this, I don't think they really know.

I'm guessing within the next couple of weekends at the latest. The orange concrete tube was pretty close to the tower jib at one point over the weekend. I don't think it can go much higher without lifting the tower crane.

Also, thanks for the info on the tensioning cables. Indeed, that is what they are for as I got a good close look at them. Interesting construction concept.

I dont know much about construction but Id guess tower crane leasing and operation is not only a bitch to coordinate but also pay for.

This is going up so FAST! Hoping they decide to start the second tower right away before the economic cycle gets too late! They seem like they have a vision and are all about executing as fast as possible!
