Well, theres not much left in the city for the Mississippi to take away if it does flood.

the corps of engineers is motoring a barge loaded with explosives to blow the levee to try to save whats left of cairo as we speak. it's like some strange movie...

Holy crap, cant believe the entire town was evacuated. The entire city could be wiped off the map by the flood waters, this is for sure insane. Wow... sad.

i can hear the terminator 2 soundtrack as the barge is cutting the dark choppy waters of the mississippi river loaded with one million tons of TNT...

the missouri house speaker has received death threats for trying to thwart the operation to save cairo and has a security detatchement with him.

flooding

maybe the flooding threat is why the port was moved and Cairo ended up dying. Similar things happened in Galveston, TX and Johnstown, PA, to a lesser extent. Who wants to live in, or have their business or warehouse in, such a flood prone area when there are safer harbors nearby, like Memphis and St. Louis.

Cairo was saved this time, with their own massive levies and those blown up down stream in MO. Most of all of the high dangerous water is now below Cairo at this point.

I feel for the people of Cairo, but I really don't think this dump deserved to be saved. You can find hundreds of other towns in America with better historical architecture and significance.
