Calgary Bus Routes

Thread for discussing current and future bus routes, the bus network as a whole.

Since the Calgary Public Transit thread is very geared towards the BRT and LRT systems the workhorse of the system, the common bus is often ignored as it usually just works but by lack of glamour that the system has mean that we are missing out on oportunites from lack of thought? Well here's a space to give it some thought.

To kick things off two routing ideas that I think might be really useful.

1) Extension of the 20 from Heritage Station to the east. It would follow Heritage drive then hook up with Glenmore to cross the river then go South on 18th through Quarry Park then terminating at DouglasGlen Station

Pros:
-Better connection to Deerfoot Meadows for Midsouth communities and south of glenmore communities
-Better connection to Quarry Park for Midsouth communities and for portions of riverbend.
-Introduces East-West Connector into SE BRT line

Challenges:
-In trialing this route should all 20s go to Douglasglen or a small selection?

Thoughts?

2) Inner south cross town.
Westhills-Richmond Road-33rd Ave-Premiere way-elbow-39th ave station-42nd ave-ogden road-50th ave to 52nd street

Pros
-Rewards density increases happening on west side of the route
-Bridges the existing east west service gap between 17th and glenmore
-Compliments existing service in Foot hills
-Provides connection between Southline and future 52nd street BRT

Challenges
-Uncertainity on what the demand to connect from inner south communities to industrial areas would be. Would this short turn at 39th off peak.

Thoughts?

Discuss and bring up your own ideas.
