Those overhangs look somewhat permanent from my vantage point but here's how they look from underneath:

This thing is flying! The other buildings I've followed have all been concrete / rebar core w/ steel beam frame. I guess full concrete goes faster.

At what point does the first piece of exterior detail get put on? Or is it way to early to be asking that?

A major factor is if the 28-day concrete breaks are at least 100% strength.

2 years and only 7 floors above ground. I'm amazed this is getting built.

Hey, at this rate, since I turn 17 today, it'll still be under construction when I'm of age to purchase a hotel room!

What's up with the massive concrete walls or beams currently being formed in the front middle portion? I assume this is a transfer floor (perhaps to allow more flexible wall placement on the hotel room floors above)?

the author of post 2318 seemed to be saying this would be the hardest floor to form and mentioned the method of forming the slabs would be changing. Maybe what we're seeing that's so different is part of the change.

I'm sure it is. And there appears to be some load transfer going on which--as I indicated previously--would allow a change in the placement of load-bearing columns on the floors above this one, presumably better suited to the hotel guest room layouts.

well I walked by and at least there is a lot of sprinkler piping and even some partition wall studs going up on the completed floors.

I think this is going to take much longer. Comcast is going to have tenants moving in soon as they finish the hotel portion - and broke ground in late Summer 2014.

This thing is NOT EVEN CLOSE to being finished - well over 2 years into construction - and with 40 plus floors left to even pour...let alone finish.

Ironic, isn't it? CTC is 539 feet taller than the W, yet gets done quicker. Still, at least they're getting done.

I have to be the only guy who stops worrying about the pace of a project once it gets above ground. The ones in the pipeline are the ones that I fret about.

I agree with you. I don't really care about speed too much at this point. This is happening. Anyway, based on the nature of the site and type of construction, it should proceed much more quickly than most buildings soon. Supposed to rise one floor every 3 days after floor 10.

If it weren't for this taking so long, we'd go through construction crane withdrawal as other projects wrap up.
