here are some random news ones, this first one is a retake of an older shot which had a little blur in it.

Random pics

Seeing as this is a random photo thread, i'll throw a couple of mine in. PLEASE NOTE!! These were taken with a mobile phone as i don't usually carry my camera around with me, so the quality won't be great, but i just like some of them.

Awesome. How did you get the stars to come in so clear? Any special lens? What settings did you use?

I know they're nothing too special technically, but i like them, particularly the misty one and the sunrise one. Will hopefully be learning a lot about photography in the next 12 months.

Does anyone else think it might be valuable for people to post basic settings with the photos in general (just in this thread)? I think it could be a great learning session for everyone and see how many different ways there are to take a photo. I'm not sure how valuable it would be after some of the after-image corrections done/resizing. But it might be useful in some cases.

This was supposed to be artistic... but... it was cold and I couldn't keep my camera still. It's still pretty cool though.

Here are a few shots of a foggy night. This is the view over our back fence looking through the woods at a state managed school. It's for troubled teens. Anyway, the fog was just too cool to pass up.

Hey Kevin,
No, I didn't use a special lens or anything. Just took the shots on nights that weren't cloudy. The first one was taken way outside of LA, so the lack of city light helped. EXIF:

1st shot:
# Camera make: SONY
# Camera model: DSC-R1
# Date/Time: 2006:11:24 20:37:15
# Flash used: No
# Focal length: 14.5mm
# Exposure time: 30.000 s
# Aperture: f/3.2
# ISO equiv.: 800
# Whitebalance: Auto
# Metering Mode: matrix
# Exposure: Manual
# Exposure Mode: Auto bracketing

2nd Shot
# Camera make: SONY
# Camera model: DSC-R1
# Date/Time: 2006:12:14 01:10:51
# Flash used: No
# Focal length: 14.3mm
# Exposure time: 13.000 s
# Aperture: f/2.8
# ISO equiv.: 800
# Whitebalance: Auto
# Metering Mode: matrix
# Exposure: Manual
# Exposure Mode: Auto bracketing

Nice pics KevinFromTexas......could be shots or a setting for a scene in a Stephen King/John Carpenter horror movie, especially with the bit hanging down from the tree......not sure about the squirrel though

Thanks. Just to make it spooky, on the other side of that school, is my old high school, and next to that is a park. There's actually two graves within the park, one of the headstones of a woman, notes that she is related somehow, (extended family), to Abraham Lincoln. It's been a while since I've been up there, but I think the woman died in 1884. Kind of interesting. I need to go there and get some pictures of the park, too. Lots of trees and there's even a view of the very top of the Frost Bank Tower in downtown.

Thanks for the tips, Urban Sky. I really like those.
