Bus service on those routes are garbage and few people ride them. Let's not pretend that road improvements with minor concessions to transit represents a meaningful improvement to transit. Like I recently posted in the roads and infrastructure thread, the best thing we can do for trucking and trades is end their rivalry with single occupancy vehicles by getting commuters off the road. Road improvements, thanks to induced demand, do the opposite without meaninful investment in transit.

I'm sure someone here knows the purpose. On the corner of my street yesterday there was one of those little orange/yellow portable city of Winnipeg shacks with a guy inside. Just curious what excatly they are doing in there. I always assumed it had something to do with tracking bus times, but wouldn't the GPS systems accomplish that these days? Or are they not even related to transit and I'm out to lunch.

Orange shack you described is usually for traffic counts, typically done if there is a proposal to provide traffic controls in some manner.

Don't know if the new fare box does counts but at one time they also used the portable shacks for doing ridership counts. While not exact they gave an idea of how many riders were on each bus.

I sure hope those new boxes do counts. How much were they, $20,000 per bus or something? On the rides I have taken, it takes a bit longer to put the coins in. Sometimes a couple minutes. But they're pretty sweet.

The fare boxes don't count the passengers there's a counter on the front and rear door plate that is tied in to the radio system on the 140 to 168 series buses 601 to 640 and 800 series buses.

Why do you wanna bring a suburban feeder bus to downtown Winnipeg?

There's already an overload of buses coming downtown, some of them shouldn't be... For example the 65 Grant Express and the 66 Grant are two examples. Terminate them at Stafford & Pembina instead, then build an underground/metro/subway station there.

The 39 "Taylor Park & Ride" should be cancelled. People working at Hydro should walk to/from Stafford & Pembina.

As it looks from the bus fleet size, the city is constrained due to operating costs. Moving more users onto larger buses, and possibly LRT at some point in the future is the only way to increase service without raising the operational subsidy. Winnipeg shouldn't be wedded to BRT anymore than Calgary be wedded to LRT.

It's OSBORNE, no 'U' in there. Stop thinking it's Ozzy Osbourne related.

I hate those toasty warm buses. It's -40 out you're wearing a huge parka. You get on the bus and the driver is in a Tshirt and its like 35 in there.

In my previous post about extending the 98 route west of the Perimeter to meet needs in a currently unserviced section of Winnipeg made no mention of downtown Winnipeg.

I also agree that the number of routes connecting with downtown could be better handled by having dedicated lines from downtown to more suburban transfer points where you get onto the specific route to your destination. We might get there eventually with rapid transit.

The 600s have computer problems the 800s are good. Buses but they need to keep them in working order so they are out on the road more no not in G.

Well. I wouldn't call this good news...

23 of 40 units sold in three years. Just waiting on those building permits to get that development moving.

For what it's worth, unless Marquess is financing himself, no bank is going to proceed with construction at less than 70% pre-sold in this market. Especially not with the chronology involved in moving the first 23. I'm doubtful we see anything until mid-summer at the earliest.
