San Francisco's Salesforce Tower becomes tallest building on West Coast
Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) --
It's official. The Salesforce Tower became San Francisco's tallest building.

The iconic Transamerica Pyramid building has been the tallest structure in the city for 43 years.

"In the first quarter of 2017, we will top out the structure at its total height 1070 feet, becoming the tallest office building West of Chicago," explained Robert Kain who is working on the Salesforce Tower.

It's part of the transformation of the ever-growing city skyline. The finished office building will be the center-piece of a new South of Market neighborhood that also includes the new Transbay Terminal.

Both are scheduled to open late next year.

The Salesforce Tower will be 1,070 feet. The Transamerica building is 853 feet And the former Bank of America Center stands at 779 feet.

Salesforce Tower just went dark. First time I've seen it like this since they started topping it out. Wonder if there's a power outage.

Both tower cranes are lit and pointing upward, so maybe they're saving energy late on Sunday night.

I can still see the two red lights on top of the Millennium Tower blinking through the steel frame, far down from the top of the Salesforce Tower. It pointedly shows how small everything looks in comparison, especially surrounding towers that once looked tall.

Spectacular, thanks for the update. Both of these towers are impressive and the designs iconic and restrained.

Anyone here going to be working high in the Salesforce when it opens? If I worked in those towers it would be tough to focus on my job and not just enjoy the tower and the view. They would never higher me because I would be looking around too much at everything creeping people out. Sometimes I wonder how people go to work around there and refrain themselves from just looking at the tower and the people for that matter. I couldn't handle it. I just have to see all there is to see.

Mark Benioff's office at the top will have ridiculous views. He can sell anybody anything if they're just sitting there, looking at the Transamerica pyramid, Golden Gate bridge, and the rest of northern SF from above. I wish it had a public observatory deck at the top.

Thanks! Because of the account, I got to visit the top of the pyramid once, and the Loews Regency skydeck too (I do photography). I'm really sad that Twitter sucks so much now.

Wow, I'm surprised there's a crossover between this forum and Reddit.
