Saw some promo on the 2011 River City Round-Up last night on CTV, and loving how this event could evolve into something really great for the city. Done right this event could get way more traction than Capital Ex and encompass the entire city.

Edmonton’s River City Roundup will sport black-tie, Wranglers
EDMONTON - Country karaoke, black-tie bingo and Wranglers are in the works for the River City Roundup, a 10-day festival of agriculture and western heritage organized by the City of Edmonton.
City Hall and Northlands are partnering on the festival side of the Canadian Finals Rodeo. The organizations stepped up after volunteer co-chairs Jackie Rae Greening and Bob Steadward both stepped down in May.
The rodeo runs from Nov. 9 to 13. The official kickoff for River City Roundup is planned for Nov. 5 in Churchill Square.
The festival’s aim is to extend the western celebration beyond Northlands to the entire city, said Northlands president Richard Andersen. “It gets the event exposed to more and more people.”
