Wow, I knew Kildares was going out, but it looks like the Colony apartment building was razed also.

Here's a pic I took of the site back in July:

I got a couple of pics yesterday of a couple of projects downtown.

First is the Rise tower on the east end. Not great pics, but at least it's underway:

Next is the Metropolitan:

from the south

from the north

Was in State College last weekend and drove by the Metropolitan site. The envelope isn't quite complete and lots of steel beams showing inside. Checked their FB page out of curiosity and they are still telling residents about move in on Aug 1x. That's six weeks out. While I don't know a ton about tower construction, doesn't finish work still take several months? Wonder what they'll do if 500+ students can't move in before classes start and have to house somewhere during football weekends. Glad that ain't my problem!

Found a camera online for the Rise tower:

Hope it works.

^ Great to see the old place get a makeover. That's where my brother played his high school football.

Here's a couple of pics of the Metropolitan. While there is still work going on, there are occupied apartments in the building. I saw dozens of lights on in various areas the evening I drove into town late Monday (8/21), and the next morning I saw students exiting the building and heading to campus.

^ Wow, State College is getting taller and denser downtown and this proposal reinforces that. Thanks for the info Urbana.

Is this proposal for the northwest corner of Atherton and College? or the southeast corner? If it is for the northwest corner, I will be glad to see that Sunoco give way to a development of this scale and density.

Edit: Disregard that question. I checked on street view and this proposal is for the southeast corner. The Sunoco lives

Ha, Little Szechuan, which is located in that small commercial strip, is a favorite haunt of mine. Whenever I am in town it is a mandatory stop....not that my friends complain. I do agree that the lot is primed for a four to eight story multi-use development.

On another note, are there any rumblings of moving the inter-city bus station currently located on North Atherton?
