SHANGHAI | China Safe Finance Building | 524 FT / 160 M | 40 FLOORS

I came across this one in Lujiazui today. I remember seeing the rendering sometime ago, but I couldn't find the thread.

I really don't know what to think. I do know that Lujaizui will have one of the most mixed group of buildings (style-wise) than anywhere else on this planet.

If proper materials are used, it could be a nice homage to a style long gone. There are some apartment highrises near my place that attempt this greek style of architecture without being absolutely offensive.

I like the crown.

The name of that disaster is the China Safe Finance Building, its planned height is 160 meters
This part of the Lujiazui CBD foreground is definitively ruined. First the Merryland Building and now this !

Yeah, this is a awkward design by a japanese firm as the signboard reads. The project belongs to China Ping An Insurance Company. It's said the company wanted its building to resemble and match the classical buildings along the Bund across the river.

Someone posted their original design on skyscrapers.cn., which i likes a lot better!!! Too bad it was rejected!!!

I deffinatly think that gothic one would have been amazing. It's a shame they aren't building it.

Oh yeah, I remember that gothic one. Too bad they didn't build that instead. Missed opportunity for something memorable.

Yes, first the Merryland building (let's hope for a quick recladding, like for the mid 90s building besides the HSBC tower) and now this piece of shit.

What does western antiquity or gothism has to do with modern chinese architecture and a XXIth century CBD ? This is most vulgar. Pompe and monumentalty : it reminds me of italian and german facist architecture (would have fit perfectly in "Germania", Adolf's planned recycling for Berlin).

And this one won't be that easy to reclad...

The rendering is a lot less hedious then the model. Still ugly though. Wish they wouldve picked one of the other ones.

It does seem quite out of place among the skyscrapers, but Shanghai does have lowrise and midrise buildings of this style. It's still a stumble, like them turning the open circle on top of the future new tallest into a square.

While I don't despise this building as much as everyone else, I do worry about it's position in the skyline. Like Merryland, this building will be extremely visible from many different angles. I was walking through the Bund yesterday, not on the water but further back, and I could see Merryland perfectly. It scared me a little.

Not much of a difference. A lot more digging etc. I told the workers at the site how much you love this building, avcellvs. I think they are going to send you a model.

What the heck! They chose the worst design, the gothic-cathedral was so cool!
