The Deh Cho Bridge, under construction in the Northwest Territories between Hay River and Yellowknife.

An amazing feat of engineering for such a remote area

I think Toronto should build a big suspension bridge from the portlands to the downtown..

Why? Because I want a bridge in my skyline shots! :p

(Obviously I'm kidding that would be ridiculous)

I honestly think Kevin Falcon had some kind of legacy complex, hence every new bridge in BC (port mann, golden ears, canada line, coast-meridan overpass, etc) is an easily-identifiable cable-stay bridge. He probably wants to be known as the bridge-builder or something...

Well I don't necessarily disagree with you abour Falcon's desired legacy, the bridges are all cable stayed due to seismic requirements.

Vancouver has some lovely bridges and I also like the new the new cable stayed ones they have been building in the last 20 years.
The Lion's Gate i a beautiful bridge but my favorite has always been the Burrard.
I really like London's old Blackfriar's Bridge.

My favorite bridge in Canada is also an international one and the smallest international bridge in the world. It's a little tiny walk bridge between two houses that are on their own tiny little islands in Ontario's Thousand Islands. Not only very very cute but also international as one house is on the US side and the other on the Canadian.

Sweet photo, looks really majestic. Now that's a fine piece of engineering.

A bridge would look good in the Toronto skyline (I am just talking about the look, not the practicality).

Maybe someone with talent with Photoshop could "built" a bridge in a Toronto picture.

I think it is a very real possibility. Since the bridge will take at least 10 years to build, it could be named posthumously in the honor of the Queen.

It is highly unlikely (even impossible) that we will see any new namings of anything in honour of the royals in Quebec. Even with the current bunch of Conservatives we have in power - it's still pretty much a no-go.

I don't think the bridges are cable stayed for seismic requirements, as other types of bridges can be successfully designed and build to seismic requirements, rather cable stay's are the most cost effective for the current span, height, constructability, and seismic requirements of the recent and current Vancouver bridges.

Note, within the cable stay bridges in Vancouver, there are some major differences (superdosed, steel deck/concrete deck, post tensioned concrete, etc).

When I was kid I went to Franco-Ontarian schools for a while and we actually had this in our songbooks. Not sure if they had this in schools in Quebec though...
