Asheville, NC, Tri-Cities Trip

After spending most of the day walking the Tri-cities in rain and overcast skies, I decided to hit up a city which was not too far away, and possibly had nicer weather. I realized Asheville (a dandy city I had visited before) was fairly close. I drove south on I26 and the sun appeared shortly after I crossed from TN to NC. Good Omen.
As a side note, the mountains on the way to Asheville were wonderful (though my pics aren't, and were taken from freeway overlooks ).

Another aside is that Asheville reminds me a touch of Ithaca: hilly, natural beauty, many unique folks. Of course Asheville is like Ithaca on acid and steroids.

Other Stops:
Kingsport, TN

Bristol, TN/VA

Johnson City, TN

Roanoke, VA

Now for some random pics (can't compare to hauntedhead's thread, but c'est la vie). No comments from me.

Ex-Ithacan - these pictures are great. Like I said on one of Haunted Head's recent threads, it is my dream to visit Asheville. It seems to the best of everything.

Wicked collection of photos of a very interesting (and surprisingly urban) locale.

Love it.

Lookinggood, Ex-Ith. And don't be so modest!

Thanks all, and for those of you who haven't visited, put Asheville on your must-see list.

@ hhnc -- glad you liked the pics. Sorry I couldn't meet up with you (kind of a last minute stop, and I don't have a laptop computer). btw, not modesty, just self realization of a lack of true photographic skills. "wtf is an f-stop?" kind of lacking.

It looks like it's quite an interesting place to visit, love the older buildings. Some of the natural scenery reminds me a bit of the hills of coastal/central California. I'm so glad you shared these photos as I haven't seen much of North Carolina.

BTW I didn't know Woolworth was still in business, we haven't seen one around these parts probably since when I became an adult in the early 80's.

Woolworth's isn't in business still, as far as I know. That's the Woolworth Walk, an art market that opened up in the restored Woolworth building.

I bet you will, i always see d.c. plates on clean suvs when i'm in Asheville.

To me, Asheville feels like a solid city nestled in a gentler, sunnier, warmer, swimmier, summier version of the Oregon coast range. I absolutely adore it and the surrounding region. It's also this weird place were the east coast, south, and midwest have conversations in the bar.
