I would be surprised if Diesel opened up at CCC, but maybe not so much True Religion.

I also think another possibility is Sephora, even though it's not unique to Utah, but I think another one would be appropriate at CCC.

Central Metro - Sporting goods retailer breaks ground in Sandy

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...-in-Sandy.html

SANDY — Sporting goods retailer Scheels broke ground Wednesday on its new store to be located near 11400 South and State Street in Sandy. When completed in October 2012, the new location will employ up to 450 workers.

The 220,000-square-foot development will house Utah's largest selection of sports, sportswear and footwear.

The development will be named One Fourteen and will contain collection of entertainment venues, specialty shops and boutiques staffed by experts in their particular fields, a news release stated.

Nick Duerksen, economic development director for Sandy City, explained that the remaining 100,000 square feet of available commercial space is currently being marketed to numerous out-of-state potential tenants, which is part of the city's overall economic development strategy...

Any other guesses as to what stores will open at CCC?
A friend of mine who works at Abercrombie & Fitch at The Gateway told me last winter that H&M was coming to The Gateway this Spring, but so far... nothing. He said it was going to replace the Ann Taylor store (right of the Apple store) and occupy both the bottom level and the loft level. I asked him recently if he had heard any news and he said he hadn't. Maybe they decided to go with CCC instead.

That would be very interesting to see if H&M had decided on CCC instead of Gateway. I've always been a strong advocate for the success of Gateway, but was quite disappointed in the finish choices they made on that Ann Taylor section and also the newer section north, "Old Navy, etc". I would hope that enough competition will exist between Gateway and CCC, that downtown retail will ultimately benefit, and the two giants,(Gateway in particular) will experience growth, and urban-centric improvements. There's a lot of potential yet to be realized for Gateway's north and northwest area.

Can transit-oriented development work along Wasatch Front?

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...ront.html?pg=1

"It's kind of like judging a kid's college potential based on his performance in kindergarten," said Reid Ewing, a professor of city and metropolitan planning at the University of Utah. "It's got a lot of developing and growing to do before you can tell whether it's going to be successful."

Though most of them have been slowed — and in some cases stalled — by the Great Recession, several transit-oriented developments are in the works along the Utah Transit Authority's light- and commuter-rail lines...

...Farmington's 800,000-square-foot, mixed-use development Station Park is starting to take shape at the junction of I-15 and U.S. 89. Other TODs are in various stages of planning or development in Salt Lake City, Provo, Orem, Ogden, Clearfield, Layton, Sandy, Draper, Midvale, South Salt Lake and West Jordan — among others.

One of the main reasons they're moving forward, Taylor said, is TODs seem to have the support of banks, credit unions and other lenders...

...But they're not developing as quickly as builders and transit experts projected they would. Some point fingers at the economy, saying such developments would be thriving now if lenders hadn't gotten cold feet...

..."There's no question that the economy really did slow down the idea of transit-oriented development," said Ryan McFarland, UTA's transit economic development manager. "But that's OK, because it gave us an opportunity to really get out there and plan. … Planning is critical. There are ways to make transit-oriented development successful."...

Partially developed land sits empty near the North Murray UTA TRAX station on Fireclay Avenue. Transit officials believe land near station can be successfully developed. (Stuart Johnson, Deseret News)

Salt Lake City deemed a key financial hub

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...ncial-hub.html

...Salt Lake City was cited by eFinancialCareers.com — an online job and recruitment website — as one of three key U.S. metro areas in a article titled, "Unexpected Wall Street."

Also named on the list are Seattle and Raleigh-Cary, N.C...

...The Royal Bank of Scotland also announced it will be expanding operations in Utah this year, adding 260 employees with an emphasis on recruiting technology professionals...

Royal Bank Of Scotland To Develop Information Technology Support And Operations Facility In Salt Lake County

Salt Lake City, UTAH – RBS Securities Inc. (RBS) has chosen Utah as a location to expand its IT support and operations capabilities. RBS’s Global Banking & Markets (GBM) franchise in the Americas is exploring opportunities to open a facility in Salt Lake County which will enable it to enhance the level of service it delivers to their client base throughout the Americas.

The holding group (The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc) was founded in 1727 and has over 40 million customers worldwide. Its GBM division serves as a banking partner to major corporations, financial institutions, and public sector clients globally. GBM provides a wide range of debt markets, treasury and investor products, asset and portfolio management, and transaction banking services.

The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) has targeted financial services as one of its key economic clusters which show the opportunity for significant growth. Continued growth of RBS fits this targeted industry. RBS’s GBM Americas franchise plans to expand in Utah with the addition of 260 new full-time positions, to be created over the next 15 years, in a facility in Salt Lake County. The company is expected to pay over $390 million in new State wages and will provide new State revenue of $34 million over the same period. RBS expects to invest approximately $6.27 million into the facility by the end of 2010.

After taxes are paid, the State will rebate, in the form of a post-performance tax credit, 25% of the qualified new state tax revenue over 15 years. The estimated maximum value of the incentive, which will be paid over the life of the project, is $8,607,261.

“We are pleased that RBS has chosen to expand their Americas IT and operations capabilities in Utah,” said Spencer Eccles executive director for the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. “This is a big win for Utah’s economy and is further proof that Utah is the place to do business.”

Provo passenger terminal work begins

http://www.heraldextra.com/business/...b12453c6e.html

..."We have a million things just about ready to start," Gleason said. "This will be a monumental achievement to get this done. Everyone is going 100 percent."

Both Gleason and Curtis said they are excited for the potential this can bring to Provo and Utah County. The current push will be well worth it.

"The city and others have worked for so long to get scheduled service at the airport, it's exciting to see it really happening," Curtis said. "After making slow, steady progress for years, we're now sprinting to the finish line. When you look at its potential for economic development, and how convenient it will be for local travelers, it's going to be well worth all the effort."

Provo council approves $39M bond for rec center

PROVO (AP) — A new recreation center is finally coming to Provo.

Municipal Council members on Tuesday approved a $39 million bond issue to pay for the project backed by two mayors and endorsed by city residents in a November vote.

Opponents of the bond had called a recession a bad time to be issuing bonds.

But Provo assistant finance chief Dan Follett says the current market offered the best interest rates in the last 20 years.

Southern Metro - A few updates of the many new and ongoing projects

The Greater Salt Lake City/Wasatch CSA is among a short list of North America's most attractive metro settings. The Southern portion of the Metro is certainly no exception

Redford Conference Center -

meetingsnet.com

eco-structure.com

The recently opened Redford Conference Center is the latest installment of Robert Redford’s Sundance Resort, which is located at the base of Mt. Timpanogos in Sundance, Utah, and integrates sustainability and artistic expression through its facilities. The building encompasses nearly 3,500 square feet of meeting space.

Geothermal heating and cooling is employed throughout. In the winter, the center is heated by pulling heat from the ground below the building, and in the summer heat from the building is dispersed deep into the ground. The conference center employs 15,152 square feet of structural insulated panels (SIPs). The SIPs are strong enough to resist the snow loads of the area while still having the ability to span custom-built timber frame trusses.

Other sustainable attributes include the lighting; 95 percent of the light fixtures are LED or fluorescent. The ballroom’s carpet is cradle-to-cradle certified and 100 percent PVC-free and the hearthstone is locally quarried and required only two cuts for installation. Ballroom wood and the painted woods in the pre-function spaces are reclaimed barn materials, the snowfence materials in the pre-function area is from fences that retain snow in Wyoming, and the corral board material lining the stairwells is from old corrals in Montana and Wyoming.

Project team members include architect, Salerno Architects, salernoarchitects.com; lead consultant, structural engineer, and landscape architect, LEI, www.lei-eng.com; contractor, Timber Works Inc., timberworksinc.net; and project superintendent, R&O Construction, randoco.com.

Salt Lake City reminds me a lot of Charlotte for some reason. Both cities have it going on! These are the cities that Jacksonville should just copy because they are doing everything right.

Charlotte is a great city and one of these days (10-15 years from now) I think either Charlotte or Salt Lake City (or both) will be getting a Major League Baseball team.

delts, as always you do such a wonderful job on the compilation page. I love reading the different comments here from people who normally don't frequent the Mountain West section.
