Alright, this is a little random, but I LOVE architecture in Portland! I noticed that The Regent looks similar to the FOX Tower in Portland, Oregon...

Hey Green Bro, Yeah, I guess there are some flavor similarities. The Regent has more of a residential feel to it of course. Fox seems more commercial. Hmmm...The feel of the street levels are very similar, from what I can tell in the pics anyway.

As for Sam Weller's moving to a currently undisclosed location downtown, I don't have an issue with it because it's still going to be downtown and something else can take it's place, like a restaurant as Delts suggested.

A kick butt restaurant/club, w/outdoor seasonal seating would be very cool. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, both where Wellers relocates and who replaces them. I'm thinking that Weller's will be an outstanding plus for another street downtown. Then, if we fill in the Weller's with something new and very positive, this could be a Win-Win situation. I'm definitely not ready to start protesting yet.

While not a lot of details are being said out loud yet, I'm wondering if the lease on that particular location is about to see a significant cost increase. I think with 222 and especially CCC, Regent, Large Broadway Touring Theatre, etc. we're going to see a bit of a gentrification of Main. We shouldn't lament that it's getting more empty, because this is only the process of what will be happening over the next two years, as major life altering projects on Main near completion. Of course, the jury is still out, as far as who will be moving in. So far I've liked the newly established businesses.

Study: Utah poised to rebound from recession quickly
http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148...96&autostart=y
( I love the shot of all the cranes in the background of the news reporter. )

SALT LAKE CITY -- A new study shows Utah may be poised to recover from the recession more quickly than most states. The reason, according to the conservative authors, is Utah's business-friendly environment.
This is a conservative study with a lot of praise for Utah's conservative Legislature and its policies, but the forecast is a pragmatic look at what businesses want and what Utah has.
Poised to attract more high-tech companies, more in research and medicine, in recreation, tourism and energy; Utah may have what it takes to climb out of the recession first.

Provo ranked best mid-sized city in U.S.

Bizjournals, a national network of business publications, rated Provo ahead of every other mid-sized city of at least 50,000 people in the country. Boulder, Colo,. and Madison, Wis., rounded out the top three, while El Paso, and Bakersfield and Visalia, Calif., came in at the bottom of the rankings...

BYU students Jason Ribeira and Chelsea Rodman hike to the Y with Provo in the background Tuesday, March 17, 2009. A new Bizjournals study says Provo has the best quality of life among 124 mid-sized metro areas in the United States.

.....Metro Geography of the Wasatch Front

Southern Metro ~ Utah Valley
Hundred's of thousands of metro residents live on what are commonly referred to locally as benches. The entirety
of Salt Lake City's eastern metro, running from north to south is enveloped by a dramatic
mountain wall, rising abruptly from the valley floor. This would be the Wasatch Mtn. Range,
from which the Metro takes it's name, "Wasatch Front." In the pic below, we are looking directly from east to west of a typical
valley view of an average residence on the east mtn. bench. The majestic mountainscape
we see across the valley, is the Oquirrh(pronounced Oaker) Mountain Range.

.....Central Metro ~ Salt Lake Valley
.....Salt Lake Valley's Snowbird Ski Resort ~ Tram, "on the way to the top" For many residents of the
Wasatch Metro, it's mountains, canyons and eleven major ski resorts are an integral part of everyday urban life

Davis County to help build arts center

http://deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,705291527,00.html

Latest Rendering

This is the latest rendering of the Davis Cultural Arts Center, formerly called the South Davis Cultural Arts Center, to be built in Centerville. Centerville hopes to break ground in May with an opening in 2011. (Provided by Scott Vandyke, Principal with ASWN)

Davis County's donation — $800,000 upfront and $171,428 a year for seven years — gives the Centerville Redevelopment Agency the ability to bond for a $14 million project, which is expected to include a 500-seat, main-stage theater and a black-box component, which is a smaller, more flexible theater space for more intimate performances...
