Cheap or Not..

Those Towers have taken Canada to the next level, along with getting us some international raves. The commendations these buildings are getting will last a lifetime.

We have never seen a design like that before, and I doubt we'll see a similar building go up in this country again, regardless of cost.

Anyways back to skyscraper construction.

The Absolute is what happens when Dr. Suess gets bored of writing children's novels and takes up a new career in architecture.

Me too. And I like that it is in Mississauga.

For sure this one would have been nice in Toronto, but would have been lost in the noise of the size of the city. It works in Mississauga.

Absolute was built on a budget. That's nothing new. It is Mississauga afterall. What they accomplished through the simple twisting of a cantilevered floorplate and a cheap window wall should be commended and not berated. They are both unique & elegant which rarely accompany each other in high-rise residential design today. No need to use the excuse, "at least it's unique" here.

^ Give me a break. If they were built anywhere other than metro Toronto you would hate them.

HERE HERE!

Do not speak with your mouth open and ur brain not functioning.

IIRC - The Developers of Absolute World did not make any money on the construction of these two towers. And the standard condos developed just before this project had to have made the sufficient profit before the glamour towers could go up. So in fact, unless a developer wants to loose money do not look for a better design to EVER GO UP IN CANADA

STOP UR WHINING!!!!!

Yawn ... it's rather give me a break. You've obviously never met an inner city Torontonian. Anything north of Eglinton or, in this case, west of Roncesvalles, may as well be Mars. I just happen to have a new appreciation for these towers as they twist a lot better than I ever expected yet remain simple and elegant without unnecessary doo-dads, sharp edges, and/or awkward setbacks. The amount of spandrel is surprisingly less than I thought and it's also setback from sight.

I really love that building. As far as neo-deco goes, it's pretty impressive.

The towers are world-renowned. So obviously it isn't just Torontonians who like them.
I'm sure if they were built anywhere other than Metro Toronto you'd LOVE them.

It is good at night, but in the daytime when you can see all the details and just how much it was cheapened in general it makes one like it significantly less.
I loved it too at first but then when I saw how much they took away from it my opinion lessened. Not saying I hate it though because I am a fan of Art Deco and it's something that isn't a glass box.

Where did you get your info from? I have a hard time believing a developer wouldn't profit off of 500+ units in Mississauga considering that the cost of land must be relatively low.

And btw I never said I didn't like Absolute. I said the window wall by itself looks cheap which it does but the slick glass balconies more than make up for it. I'll actually be seeing them in person when I'm in Toronto this coming week. If it wasn't for Absolute I'd have no interest in going to Mississauga other than YYZ.

Yes I know, any deviation of the sacred Toronto box should not be tolerated.

I'll agree with you about the lack of spandrel though.
