Very nice looking, are the designers the same as the Hudson Tower project? I'm thinking the two projects will end up complimenting each other nicely.

Yes, Dan Gilbert is the developer for both projects though this one is more on the back burner and is split into phases. Groundbreaking is expected either by December or early next year.

I’ve been wondering if the delay on this is solely due to available construction workers for demo, foundation, and garage work, with all of bedrocks ongoing projects as well as other development projects in downtown and skilled trades in short supply (especially Detroit citizens). Maybe they want to get further along on hudsons site garage construction before starting Monroe blocks. At least with the Hudsons design update and height upgrade I’m now equally excited for both projects. Both Monroe blocks and Hudsons will be exciting and worth the wait for years to come.

The Hudson's was in planning for a lot longer. I'd even go as far to say that once Gilbert started buying real estate in Detroit, it was his main goal.

The Monroe Blocks, as well as any other potential new high rise projects, kind of came out of necessity. So as long as there were other existing buildings that could be renovated and filled with tenants or residents, Gilbert would likely hold on to the land and build on them when necessary. That also means that he's probably more willing to hold off on similar projects or even downsize them if it makes financial sense.

If it happens, then along with Hudson tower, it would be the first time in over 25 years that a midwest city not named chicago has had two 500+' towers simultaneously U/C. The last time it happened was 25 years ago in minneapolis when Capella Tower and RBC Plaza were both finishing up construction in 1992.

It would probably have to be considered the most exciting time for detroit skyscraper development since the roaring '20s. Some would argue for the late '70s with the Ren Cen, but that was a singular development that, while magical as a sculptural element in the skyline, turned its back on the city to a degree when first built. what makes these new detroit towers so exciting is that they will be woven into the existing urban and skyline fabric of downtown detroit. it appears they will be as equally successful at ground level as they are in the sky.

Awesome News. It will be interesting to see if bedrock provides a more detailed timeline for the project and hopefully a live camera view of construction.

Ambitious projects. I'm hoping the area will be able to sustain them and possible future projects. (lot next to court house across the street from MB).

Someone who parks there has said that they have been notified that the parking lot on block 1 will see its last day next Tuesday for the groundbreaking, with construction work starting the week after.

Great news, really looking forward to this one getting started. Also, curious to see if there are any changes to the design / plans for this development
