My guess as well, which is a shame considering its location adjacent to a CTA stop. Hopefully they can turn it into a well designed multi use parking structure with retail on the first floor, instead of just leaving it as a lot. Demand generated by the Uptown would probably mean there would be a need for a lot more spots than the lot could currently provide.

I doubt it. The lot will probably continue as a surface lot, just reserved for high-priced valet operations at the theatre. You, me, and the rest of the regular folks can just take the Red Line like plebs.

Maybe it's just me but I read the Lawrence lot sale differently. Seems zoned permissively, qualifies for TOD, in a market with clear demand for rentals...

The Lawrence lot actually had a parking structure on it at one time.

2600 Ogden , which I posted about when the zoning application came in a few months ago, got approved today by the Plan Commission. This isn't necessarily a sexy project, but it brings in 377 units to a big vacant piece of land. This is between Douglas Park and the IMD. It says 85% of the housing will be CHA or affordable housing. Total of 3 buildings.

^ Was just thinking about the vacant treasure island store nearby (and others). Now they are just parking garages with blank street frontage. Time for them to be demolished and replaced with higher density.

People hat Illume? Are you nuts?

This place is an instant classic. I think it's gorgeous and hope it inspires others.

I think a lot of people didn't expect much of Illume because the rendering was atrocious. It turned out probably 7 or 8 out of ten but was maybe a 2 or 3 out of ten based on the rendering.

No, that's killer news. As a property owner in the area, this is exactly the type of thing the city should be building to address affordable housing needs. Instantly transforms that corner of Douglas Park. Plus I believe it's going to be managed by Habitat which has a proven track record of being able to maintain and manage these communities. They certainly deliver much more than the CHA did in most of it's projects.

They also recently announced a program to offload a ton of city owned lots to developers for $1 to build SFH on. They are targeting all the vacant lots around the park.

In addition to that Sinai is about to build another addition there and the old grade school at the SW corner of the park is being totally gut rehabbed into something. Anyone know what?

Same. So much so, that was my second choice of buying a place before ultimately choosing the north side out of convenience.
