That flight is very popular because the alternative is a winding 6-hour drive.

Just stumbled across this:

Southwest adds nonstop flight to Denver from Sac International

mglover@sacbee.com
Published: Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 - 8:51 am

Southwest Airlines, the largest carrier out of Sacramento International Airport, said it will add an additional nonstop Sacramento-to-Denver round-trip route in May next year.

The new flight will boost Southwest's nonstop Sacramento-Denver service to three daily flights. Tickets for the new service will be offered for sale in December.

Southwest said the new flight is part of a significant expansion of service at the Denver hub -- 13 new daily flights, including five new nonstop destinations out of Denver starting on March 14.

The new destinations are Ontario, Boise, Detroit, Washington Dulles and Hartford, Conn. Tickets for those cities are on sale now.

Alaska to Hawaii

Alaska Airlines inaugurates daily non-stop service from SMF to Maui March 26. Knew it wouldn't be too long before someone replaced the Aloha Airlines flights to Maui.

Spokane service returns...

Alaska/Horizon will announce later today that they will start SMF-GEG service 3.26.09. This will be a single Q400 flight per day with a morning arrival and an evening departure out of SMF.

Too bad it’s not better timed to afford an easy connection to the Maui flight, but maybe that’s coming. You know, Alaska/Horizon seem to be paying a lot of attention to Sacramento lately. Could a Focus City designation be coming down the line? Hmmm…

...Perhaps with the advent of the new terminal, which, by the way, is fleshing out very nicely! I'll try and grab some pics on my flight out this Saturday.

New Terminal Timelapse

I have been viewing the Landside Terminal timelapse for a while and noticed today that there is now one for the tarmac portion of the new terminal. Pretty cool to see the progress.

Yeah, it looks like Sac will be getting non-stop service to Detroit through Delta, starting April 28th, according to the wikipedia page of both airports. I don't know if these flights will be seasonal or long-term.

Delta to add nonstop service from Sacramento to Detroit
Sacramento Business Journal - by Melanie Turner Staff writer

Delta Air Lines is set to initiate nonstop service linking Sacramento and Detroit on April 7.

Delta will offer the nonstop service five days a week to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport from Sacramento International Airport, and increase that to seven days a week this summer.

In addition to the nonstop service to Detroit, the new flights will offer one-stop connections to 39 cities throughout the United States, and to Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Montreal and Toronto, Canada.

“More flights at Sacramento International Airport — especially convenient, nonstop flights — help business and leisure travelers to reach key destinations,” Roger Dickinson, chairman of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, said in a news release. “Detroit is a key connection for the Sacramento region due to its strength in the technology and transportation sectors.”

I posted a similar article from another source in the Sacramento Transportation thread. I forgot about this thread.

This is great news. It also means more options returning back from Europe. The 7:25 p.m. return to SMF from Detroit works well with returning flights from Europe.

A must say I have never seen a construction project move so quickly.
Everytime I'm at the airport there is something new built. I have yet to witness a marked slow-down or gap in construction since the inception of this project.

If only all our projects could move like this one.

I created a SMF thread in the General Transportation forum awhile back. I wanted a bigger audience to see what we are doing in Sacramento.

Barbara Boxer said the stimulas package was funding the airport contruction. That was the first I heard that. The new airport has been in contruction for over 2 years now well before the stimulas was even passed. Financing for it was well before that. I thought it was passed and financed thru the bond process.

Deno-- SMF received a Recovery Act grant for $11.3M for a checked baggage inspection system. You can look at project information by going to the Recovery Act website (http://www.recovery.gov/Pages/home.aspx) and entering the zip code for the airport (95837).

This is very likely $11.3M more than would be available if Carly Fiorina was representing California in DC.

So what Boxer was saying the airport construction would have stopped if the $11m stimulus was not there????
