You can still see part of the old horse racetrack that was on the site.

It would be great if they could keep the big circular atrium dome spaces for the apartment/condo amenity rooms like a big circular indoor pool in one and

fitness/gathering/lobby space in the other. Big indoor garden would be cool. They have a cool 70's star-trek vibe, just demo all the retail spaces around them.

If I recall correctly, there were gardens in those courtyards originally.

yes. I remember the mall feeling really dark with really bright splashes with the skylights. When i went there for the first time in decades i remember thinking how different it felt.

This original render on the malls 40th anniversary brochure shows a cool Asian style bridge over a pond, anyone remember if this was ever built? It also appears the suspended large circular fluorescent fixture (no longer in use) isn't original and would open up the ceiling space if removed.

Beefy construction of the dome ceiling as well, no skimpy cheap truss system in use, just huge steel beams. I could just see them needing some beefing up of the supporting walls and steel columns to reduce lateral movement in an earthquake if the domes are reused on a new adjoining structure.

I remember gardens, and that's right, the circular elements were added with the "tech" renovation in the 1990s.
The interior of the mall was much darker before (think 1970s tile and brick)
and the 1990s reno plastered white and fake chrome everywhere.
The little arches around the edge of the courtyards were also added in the 1990s reno.

Doesn't the neighbourhood feel just like Shaughnessey or the British Properties in the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s? Why is it suddenly becoming an issue? Ohh right. It's in Richmond.

I take offence. Why is he walking through the poor part of town and bitching? If you go to Surrey and go through the poor parts you'll see cars without plates too.

In Richmond the more South and East you go the poorer the neighborhood. These houses are new but the lots are generally tiny. You can tell because there's not a single German or Italian car in his video. Sure the new houses look expensive but isn't that the point? In BC Metro Van we're all about the land cost not the house cost. These houses are like 2-3 million max. There cheaper than most houses in Vancouver.

Part of what I wrote above is a joke but this guy is seriously an idiot.

http://www.vancouversun.com/business...ces/index.html
Note that he's in the South West where home prices average $800,000 while there's areas where they go up over $1,000,000.

Who chooses the poor part of town for their video, he should be using the $8.8 million ones http://westbridgegroup.ca/mylistings...c-2c9.66410208

It’s sad because McMansion neighbourhoods can actually look aesthetically pleasing but when rich asians do it with no lawns and big steel/brick fences it looks so terrible

These are also high end mansions but notice how the neighbourhood doesn’t look like a distopian wasteland

It does look like a distopian wasteland with lawns and hardly any gardening. I don't see any cars and people too. There, that's my 2 cents.
