Your talking about the picture right? We know the location of the Vistana.
But if for some reason you're not, that means that someone is having second thoughts about the Vistana or Rosa Verde Tower in favor of some pseudo-urban development.

So you do know where it is? Is is going across the jail, or the new PS HQ's?

While on the subject of DT, I thought I'd update:

Taco Garage has installed this patio canopy-awning thing for outdoor seating,
the first floor is going up at Cevallos Lofts,
Home2Suites - the new Hilton at South Texas Building got new signage approved; it'll have vertical signage at the corner and metal overhangs, kind of like Embassy Suites.
1221 is having windows installed; summer is quickly approaching and it shouldn't be long before it starts to look finished.

It hovers in the high 90%. I think that the larger units and penthouse make up that gap.

All that I found out yesterday was that it was supposed to be on some property a developer wanted to purchase at Nueva near South Santa Rosa. I think where it will actually be, if it happens, is in the air now.

So has anyone else noticed that the Riverwalk seems to have a odd coloration to it? I know they laid down lots of rock over the muddy bottom in the loop section of the river and now when I see recent photos on Flickr it just appears to have an odd green tint to it, different from the natural looking blue-green tint it had before.

The medical building that is replacing Audrey's has broken ground. Also, there's work being done at the Big Tex development. Most of it looks like demo, but I saw a few trucks with construction materials. Maybe this means more than site prep is going on?

You're close. Found out it was just conceptual, funding fell through and never moved forward past that stage. Kind of glad, in a way; looks like something that should be at the edge of "center city," like near OLLU or something, not DT.

It would have looked nicer w/o those mass parking spaces.

More growth slated at the Pearl
Quote:
Residential stock at the Pearl Brewery is still sparse, but about a year from now all that is expected to change. That, the completion of a 1,000-seat amphitheater and the addition of more retail space on the horizon has residents from the surrounding community embracing the new energy in the neighborhood.

Two upcoming construction projects, which are slated to open at the Pearl in late 2012, are expected to bring the tally to about 300 residential spaces, said Darryl Byrd, managing director for Silver Ventures, the entity that operates the Pearl.

Early infrastructure construction already has started on the 211-unit Can Plant apartments, which will be located near Newell Avenue and Avenue A. One part of the project will be a four-story building with 19 efficiency, 121 one-bedroom and 52 two-bedroom residential units. An adjacent three-story building will have an additional 19 units.

Just north of that building along Pearl Parkway, a 150,000-square-foot project will incorporate about 73 residential units along with office and retail space for shopping and restaurants. Infrastructure work on the mixed-use project is expected to start in the next few months, Byrd said.

The anticipated projects will make up the core residential spaces at the Pearl, but Byrd added that more spaces could be added at a later time.

“This is a game changer for us,” he said. “Part of what we're trying to do here is not just have our own little party. We want everyone invited.”

It's unclear if the projects will be LEED certified like the other buildings on the 22-acre campus, but Byrd said that they will be constructed with similar environmental standards in mind.

But the addition of more residential spaces isn't the only activity happening there.

Construction on the outdoor amphitheater, which is called the Park, is complete. It's situated on a hill along the river with blocks of stone placed in the grass as seating. It resembles the layout of the Arneson Theater downtown, but the stage is a concrete slab actually in the river and connected to the bank by a walkway.

Other upcoming plans include a bar at the Culinary Institute of America building and two other projects, possibly restaurants, at the Full Goods building, Byrd said. Construction is expected to begin in about three months, but the businesses weren't disclosed. Restaurants also are planned for the CIA building and the Boiler House building sometime in 2013.

Although there has been talk about a hotel at the Pearl, Byrd said it's still in the planning stage and remains a “dream.”

Silver Ventures is looking to expand the Pearl to about 5 acres across the river from the main campus. Still, Byrd said that nothing has been planned for that land.

With this and 1221 Broadway moving along, that area will be pretty nice.

Bit of an update for DT:

from mysa.com

Gunter Hotel set for auction block
  • Bexar County Justice Center Parking Garage on Flores is nearing completion
  • Last bit of rubble is being moved from future PS HQ's site
  • Cevallos lofts is topped out on side facing La Tuna, the rest is on the second floor.
  • Taco Garage is open at Vistana, and a coffee shop is planned for Woolworth's building
  • Space at Brady Tower is having interior work done for Starbucks
  • Steel frame is up for medical offices on Camden
  • Roof is going on at 1221 garage; windows and railings are up on the building behind the parking garage
  • Old ButterKrust building is gutted to frame
  • First floor is finally going up at University DT.
  • Pearls new ampitheatre is open. Shouldn't be long before we see real movement on the apartments, infrastructure improvements are being done along Newell and some of the stuff, including big water tanks, have been moved from Ave A to across Newell

I've been extremely busy lately. Hopefully I'll be able to snap some photos soon.

Has anyone seen the new lighting scheme for the tower at night. I saw it last night and it has a blue hue to it. I have to say I like it. It looks very nice...

The Tower of the Americas will shine blue throughout April as a part of “Light It Up Blue” campaign in commemoration of World Autism Awareness Day, which was Saturday.

...and also, as of tonight ToA isn't lit blue yet
