They're actually half bricks embedded in a concrete substrate, but they're certainly actually bricks (as in made of brick material)!

No, and next year. The exterior isn't finished yet, although it should be over the next few months. Then they need to build out the interior. I haven't taken too many photos lately since progress has been slow, but they are much further along than these pics. I'll swing by when it stops raining.

Looks a lot like the base of the New York by Gehry tower.

Man, this would look great together with the old 7 WTC if it was still standing

This is really 70's looking, cool. Looks like it's inspired by Kahn or something.

I think the building looks great. BUT for fun a LONG time ago I made a residential skyscraper on sketchup for this site. I really think this land is TOO valuable. Not Park Ave value but WTC value.

PLEASE if anyone has some decency you won't copy my design.

Even though the current building is good, a tower built here would have closed the gap that is separating 1 and 7 WTC from 2 WTC and the rest of the complex. Oh well, there's always the residentials being built north of Downtown.

I think a better idea would have had been to design Fiterman Hall as a base for a future skyscraper to take advantage of the air rights shown above. Then you could have had built a mixed use building called the Fiterman Building. It would have supported the college below. A Manhattan like proposal of the City Tech Tower and I know that the City Tech Tower is dead.

So is that a yey or ney for my proposal?

BTW if a taller building was built on this land, it could've been called 6 WTC. But that's a THREE way tie between this, 99 Church, and the Deutsche site.

It's possible to see a big building built here someday if the Fiterman Hall building can be designed to become a based of a skyscraper, but I don't think it would be Six World Trade Center. It's too far from the World Trade Center. The Performing Arts Center should be called Six World Trade Center. The Fiterman Building should be it's own building outright.

^ What are you talking about. People have said 99 Church should be the next 6 WTC, and 99 Church is farther, than the Fiterman Site. The Fiterman Site is right next to 7 WTC. But more likely, the Arts Center will be the next 6 WTC, as it is on the actual 16 acre land.

I do not like this building. It looks like they got their "brick" material from some tacky outlet in Staten Island.

I think the size and shape of this building are great. When I first saw the designs I had high hopes. What I hoped for was threefold: That the building would use real brick as has been a trend for Downtown New York building as of late. Two, that the glass would be of high quality. And lastly, that the windows would be bevelled out maybe 6-12 inches to create an interesting boxy exterior, as the renderings seemed to give that illusion.

Well, none of my hopes came true. I am so tired of these terrible brick panels, and the glass seems especially bad. And of course no window boxes. The massing is even better than I had imagined, but it just goes to show how important materials are to the finished product. Very good architecture, very bad materials, merely decent filler.
