I thought I'd start now with posting a complete set of pics from the tear down of the existing buildings on site, to the finish of the new tower (as viewed from my balcony) They have been stripping the guts out of the old Boss nightclub for the past few weeks now so I thought I'd capture a pic with everything still in tact. More to come as things look more interesting...

I know many people will find this one uninspiring. It doesn't light any fires for me, either, except to say that the earth-tone color scheme is very much a departure from the green-glass syndrome, that, for better or worse (you be the judges) the tower APPEARS wider at the top than at the bottom, causing it to disadhere somewhat from the immediate neighbouring buildings. The use of angles in the building is unconventional, though not glaringly so.
Whatever it is, it's a bit "different"

Kinda ironic how the renderer's totally-been-done attempt to give this box the pretense of a sharp corner inadvertently makes the tower appear stockier than it really is.

Yellow balconies is pretty much the only decent aspect of this design

Good
- Some color
- Height

Bad

That rendering makes it seem like it's more than twice as tall as Pacific Pt.! I'm not a terribly big fan of this building, and I absolutely hate the laneway treatment. The 100' of the building is blank concrete wall facing Charleson Park and the Fairview slopes, unlikely ever to be obscured because of view cones.

Isn't that view from the south blocked by Pacific Pointe and the other buildings on that block?

the project was recently approved by the UDP.
Minutes here; http://vancouver.ca/files/cov/commit...l-20130814.pdf

Of note, it's going to be a slim buidling. the floor plate is under 5,000sq/ft.
"The building is 50 feet wide and is the reason the core is
offset. As a result, there is light in all the elevator lobbies. He noted that the building skin will be a higher
performance, as they have a 40% glass area on each façade"

"The Panel supported the materials and liked the colour of the glass, especially the gold colour"

Aug 26th update from my balcony. Looks like they've made some offices inside the old night club, and have put up advertising for a Hastings project all over the walls. Soo with that I would expect that demo is still a long ways out. Thx for posting the rendering, the gold is horrible and will be such an eye sore from my place. Do you guys know the process of making a public objection to the gold colour?

Also to note Richards St is currently repaving but I think it stops right at Drake.

Still has ro be approved by the Development Permit Board, but changes to colour are probably for the UDP, not the DPB.

weird, the condo sales location was just dismantled today. They put a ton of work into this building to make it a show room and then essentially it was game over. Very strange….

That was for 900 East Hastings, not this project - just located here.

Did the Hastings project sell well (or even launch?).

as per the above link >>

PLEASE NOTE – Sales for condos at 900 Hastings begin in Spring of 2014.
