Nice night shots, fimiak.

Here is a link to the PDF for 75 Howard, but starting around page 127 there are a number of interesting renderings showing other prospective new buildings as well...

gang be taller please....

IMHO, the Jeanne Gang tower should be no "shorter" than 400'.
It's sorta sad it isn't a lot taller.

The tower is an embarrassment that never should have happened; I blame the City for approving this cheap project in such a highly prominent location. The Marriott at Moscone Center is another prime example of this.

I think the only solution to the Jasper is covering it up with many more taller and better looking buildings in the vicinity

with regard to jasper:
i really do question the planning department.
the Japser elevator core is on the western side (face) of the building.
for a prominent location, this is totally ridiculous.
yet, the architecture is cheap to begin with.
i think it was approved at a low point in the economy.
Going forward, it is too bad the powers that be in san francisco DO
NOT learn from these and other past mistakes.
Personally, I have written quite a bit about 50 first street; looks marvelous on the eastern side but also has the elevators and utilities on the back. this is especially telling with very poor renderings or distant renderings of the western face.
i mean, come on, a 900' building with an ugly back like jasper.
the crown on 50 first does not even fit or encompass the building.

in addition, one can only hope that the window washing equipment at the top of jasper is just standing in place for construction and can be hidden or turned when the building goes into full operation.
For those out there: always be cautious when you see over-hyped, colorful and artistic renderings of these buildings. they seldom look like the artsy pictures. rather, they are meant to hide the cheap materials and such--which is something else a seasoned city planner should be able to detect.

Below: my dream Gang Tower. how about at least 600 feet????

What's wrong with the Marriott? I love that building.

yeah, marriott is very well done, possible excepting the market street-fronting setback that exposes too much of the adjacent building, but that's a very minor quibble on the whole. generally, i hate things that break the streetwall (i despise 1 bush, for instance, which is apostasy here in sf) but the marriott and four seasons complexes with the lane onto jessie square/mission street are so well done that you almost have to salute them. jasper is something unto itself, and really that entire fremont street/rincon area is just a badlands for a certain type. you look at the 5m project and almost fucking weep at how unimaginatively miami/la via vancouver these drive-in/drive-out rincon hill projects are.

Marriott just looks like a tacky design that an architect wanted to experiment with. Massing looks plain bad too.

The "Jukebox" Marriott is certainly odd. It has some very unusual, albeit consistent, architectural elements and seems to be something of a 1980s PoMo take on Manhattan in the Jazz Age. It does some things well, however--most critically, the architect broke up that building's huge mass into a lot of smaller, more human-scaled elements via setbacks, lightwells, etc. A building that wide could have been executed much, much worse than this. But yeah--it is odd.

Oddness, however, isn't the same thing as poor design, ugliness and cheapness, three qualities Jasper unfortunately embodies in spades. There is no redeeming quality to the Jasper except that it brings much-needed housing to the city.

Look at the western facade of the Marriott today; with its cheap siding and windows, it hasn't aged well at all. It was another value engineered project.

Indeed, but the "Death Star bar" at the top has some pretty amazing views. For a little while, anyway.
